trail camera STOLEN

Use a permanent marker, engraver, or wood burner to mark your name and phone number into the plastic on stuff like this. No market = way less theft, and the deer don't care.

Thats a great Idea right there with the engraver or burner. But dont use marker. It really isnt permanent. Comes off like a dry-erase marker with a little acetone, brake-clean, or alcohol.

Just for a good Youtube video replace that Game camera with a cheap utilitiy box but have a hornets nest in it. Guy runs up to steal it tosses it in his vehicle and tries to drive off.. With any luck he might be allergic to bee's.
(PS: Yes it is a lame attempt at humor, no I haven't had a game camera stolen. Plenty of other stuff though. )

For those who have had one or more cams stolen - Why do you suppose they stole them?

Resale?
Get rid of evidence of trespass?
Vandalism?
Desperate need of a camera to take wedding pictures?

^ haha.

Yeah I am working on shutting down a frequent tresspassing situation myself. All my posted signs get stolen and fences get ridden around on dirt bikes, etc. So had thought to put up a cam and see who the offenders are, but was afraid it will simply get stolen.

The remote data storage seems like the ticket, but kind of $$.

When you buy a trail cam you know up front that there is a chance that it may end up stolen/damaged. To cry about it is useless. Try every trick in the book to protect it from being stolen and the crook will out smart you. If you can't afford to have it stolen than don't bother buying one.

I hunt and have relied on my tracking skills and observations to hunt deer. The rubs, the scrapes, the size of the tracks, the time frame mature bucks are active is what makes a hunter not pics on a camera.

Cameras are good for seeing animals that pass by it. A camera buff does the same thing during the day. Their hunt is the picture they get by pursuing widlife in their natural habitat. A true hunter doesn't need pictures. It is only another toy to make your hunt easier (a short cut). Learn the true meaning of being a hunter and stop looking for the easy way out.

Zing, thanks for the great idea! I have several T/C on a small 30 acre piece. So far, have not had any problems, thankfully! But like your idea.

Buddy had 2 stolen, so he put up a third one in the same spot with another one facing it. Got pictures of the neighbor. The guy offered to give the camera's back which he graciously took, then, called the cops and is prosecuting the guy:thumbsup:
I hope that your Buddy added Trespassing to the theft charge.

My neighbor had tool occasionally stolen from his barn. After putting up cameras he called the police to report the theft from the previous week. He was told by the police that if he was able to get the offenders on camera they would not be able use it as evidence because his property needed to have signs posting the the area as under video surveillance. I think he ended up just making sure the barn is locked up tight each night.

#1 reason probly is to get rid of evidence.
#2 my guess is to use them for themselves
#3 would be resale
#4 because they are kids just stealing stuff

These are just my guesses?

Boeing sorry to read your trail camera was stolen. I would love to place a camera, but have always been detered by the thought of somebody taking it. Never having used a trail camera I wonder if you used a climbing stand to install the camera higher up looking down. Would the camera still get good photos? I did like the post suggesting the camera with the remote receiver, but again I am leery of thiefs.
