Snow Traction in snow

My present tractor is so light (1400#) and my hill so steep (22% grade) that I have to use chains on all four corners. The tractors on my wish list (JD4300, Kubota L3010/3410) are easily twice that weight and have a lot more ground-sticking power.

I'd like to hear whether those of you with beefy tractors have to use chains on slopes.

I sure do. The dealer said no go for chains on the my tractor because there wasn't enough room. I just widened the tires and put them on anyway. I have some hills here and on a hill in snow and ice, even with 4wd mine is worthless without chains for pushing snow.

I'm a firm believer when it comes to running chains on the rear.....all year round for this cat.

Tire chains = good traction.

I run chains on the fronts all winter, and on the rears when the ice gets real bad. I have a Cub Cadet 7260 with all 4 R4's loaded. Clearance isn't a problem. The traction difference chains make is incredible.
