I'm going to potentially need to transport a BX24 next month, and I don't think that my 95 Dakota is really capable of doing it with its 8000 pound GVW rating. I have access to an 02 Lincoln Navigator, which I believe shares a chassis with an F150. This vehicle has a 9,000 pound GVW rating. Would this vehicle be capable of transporting a BX24 60-70 miles, mostly on an interstate, does anyone think/know? I live close enough to Delaware, which is tax free, so I'm looking into the possibility of making a purchase in that state to save close to $1000 in taxes.

Thanks

I have no problem towing the BX with my GM Yukon. Ttrailer and BX are under max tow capacity. . The important part is the trailer you will be using. You will need two axle trailer with brakes in PA probably min of 14 ft in length. Four Acre's in DE has them. I have a hyudraulic dump trailer from them and do not haul BX in that as it is to high off ground, but he has beautiful trailers for hauling BX.

It will tow it just fine, in my opinion. It may not pull with comparison to larger trucks, but it will got-it-did.

Use the truck's gearing for hills, be kind to your truck with patience and it will do OK. The BX24 isn't that heavy of a load.

The Nav would indeed pull it with a bit less struggle, saving wear and tear on your Dakota's tranny. There's where I'd opt out for the Nav....

Thanks for the feedback! If it turns out that the Dakota can tow this thing, I'll be jumping up and down with extreme joy. If I'm about to shell out the money for the tractor, I would definitely not have any interest in having to then buying a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck in addition! I could swing a trailer if need be, but not a truck too this year.

This very day a buddy of mine tows an L2800 on a 16' tandem axle with his Dakota and doesn't have any problems. Plenty of hills here too.

I still say use the Nav and save the wear on the Dakota... :D

I pull around a 16' tandem with a BX with FEL and BH all the time with a 4.0L Explorer. No issues at all. Trailer and BX combination are still under #3500.

I believe that the 95 Dakota has a 3,500-lb tow rating, and a 350-lb tongue weight rating. If your tandem trailer weighs about a 1,000 lbs or so, you should be able to haul your BX24 legally on your local highways.

This is especially likely to happen actually, because the Navigator is getting traded in or sold after it serves this purpose if it has to. :)

Taking your time and having a trailer with electric brakes (along with leaving the appropriate space cushion) will go a long way for an easy tow. You should not have any real issues so long as you should

I tow a 16 ft tandem trailer with brakes on both axles loaded with a B6200 with loader & backhoe & other attachments with a dodge dakota and have no problems at all. I do lock out the overdrive though most of time as it shifts up & down too much otherwise.
