It has been my experience with bulbs in enclosed spaces but found that the clear not frosted bulbs lasted longer. I still hope it works for you great idea.

I will experiment with clear vs frosted re: lifespan.

Last night's low temps still froze both buckets, will try 100w bulb next, and used carpet padding insulation wrapping bucket/holder.

Are they protected from the wind? Makes a huge difference IME.

You might try a bucket deicer (Allied Precision Ind DT250 250-Watt Aluminum Bucket and Utility De-Icer) . Heat transfer from the metal over the light bulb to the bottom of a plastic bucket might not be enough to keep the bucket from freezing. If you build an insulated box that the bucket will sit in and a good seal at the top of the box and bucket the light bulb might work. Need to keep all of the heat from the light bulb keeping the water bucket warm. That said I think the bucket deicer is the better option.

Bucket de-icer = $25. What I made with stuff I already have =$0.

Years ago my father in law cut the legs off this nice old cherry table. All different lengths and angles. Unusable. It was recently given to my wife so I trimmed legs so it is steady. image-3955223133.jpg

I have not been doing anything as cool as the projects most of you are working on. When I built my barn/shop I wanted it so I could get to all my equipment without having to move anything out of the way. So far this is it.

I have some other stuff on the other side of the barn that I can also just hook up. It all seems simple, but hooking everything up moving it around and out of the way takes a lot of time.
I am working on a hitch for my drill seeder but I'm not done yet.

Okay for those of you that saw my material storage cart back in post #56, I finally finished the mod to add larger (8in) pneumatic wheels. I slimed them, welded them to a plate and bolted them to the cart, widened the footprint some and realized I have more storage space underneath due to increased ground clearance, for long metal sections. So I welded up a large U bracket on both ends and now I can store several 10ft tubes, channels, L's etc. I like it!

The wheels work better for rolling over rough ground but they take more to get them to swivel. An improvement but not perfect. The plates extend out a bit now and will allow future mods/additions! Need a remote and power steering. :D
