Thanks spitter. I did watch the video just before pulling the trigger. I don't have a good straight edge that I can depend on though. Got a 36in on order. Going to make a few test cuts today and do some measuring. Then maybe I can have a reference point before/after tuning.

A new shop acquisition a couple months ago. This is a South Bend Lathe originally born in the 1920s or 30s as a Lin痴 shaft driven metal lathe. I have no idea about it痴 life history other than my late neighbor owned it and used it as a wood lathe for a number of years. I acquired it out of his estate and spent some time tuning it upl making it presentable. You got to love old iron. This machine weighs in somewhere around 1,500# and is still dead nuts on the money with no spindle runout. Currently powered by a
1 1/2 HP DC variable speed motor

That is exactly what happened somewhere in it’s lifetime adventure.
However, it’s a rock solid wood lathe and light years better than the old Dunlap (Sears) lathe my dad had back in the 50s.
It came with three ‘Nova’ chucks and a variety of faceplates, three jaw chucks, chisels, and other stuff. Regretfully the last owner was in poor health and passed away two years ago so the machine wasn’t used for at least five or more years and was left in an unheated, wet barn. It’s incredible the damage humidity and condensation can do.

No pictures yet but I've been making a traction bar for my Ford Ranger, have most of the pieces cut out at this point, some of them mounted to the truck but at least a couple more evenings of work left to do... I tell ya, a plasma cutter, bench grinder and a slew of angle grinders (I've used 4 different ones on this project so far, each with different attachments) makes some things happen...

Little fun project that's been bothering me, the air cleaner adaptor on my zero turn is plastic and collapsed from the clamp holding the hose on.

Have been doing some maintenance on the mower and finally decided to fix it, was hoping I had some pipe that was close to save on machining time bit no luck.

Found some nice 2" mystery stainless TGP solid round and machined a backup ring.

Works good and now the dirt doesn't have way to bypass the filter!

A member was asking questions about my brush guard and you can’t send pictures in a PM or at least I haven’t figured out how so I decided to post here. It’s a heavy piece of woven rod which is way overkill for the task. I found it in a junkyard so I have no idea what it started life as. Luckily the M59 brush guard is pretty straight because I couldn’t have bent it across a curved one. I intended for it to have a bumper to protect the tie rod but I mis calculated that and had to cut most of it off. Whenever I get around to it I’ll weld another piece on that’s bent to clear the tires.

A sad day in my shop today. Just sold my dad's 1964 10in Craftsman Radial Arm Saw and stand, including a vintage dado kit specifically for it. The dado kit still had the Sears price tag of $29.95. That was a lot of money back then!

I helped (as a kid) build a cabin with it, where I spent many summers. Haven't used it in more than a decade and needed space so... now headed to a place where it will get some attention. I feel bad. Sort of like putting a pet down. The money didn't matter. Am I being ridiculous?

No, your not being ridiculous. That had to be hard. I still have a wooden handled screwdriver that was my dads. It’s junk but I wouldn’t take 1K for it.

Not ridiculous just sentimental. Take some other smaller tool out that reminds you of him. Funny how we can get with inanimate objects like the van I owned for most of my kids lives. They grew up in it so it had fond memories. It's the memories we need to keep a hold of.

Been a couple of days. I got check valve installed on toplink cylinder. Check valve had 12 mm tube fittings. Cylinder had 9/16 ORB fitting. Put hydraulic pipe fitting in to 1/4" npt. Made an adapter for 12mm to 1/4" npt. Cylinder now stays where I put it.

Wow makes me feel old. I have that exact same saw and dado set. The first big tool I bought after we got married. Still use it.

I have a ton of my dad's and grandfather's tools I can't part with. I know how you feel. Who needs 3 wooden levels ??????????

Nice adaption, I have the same valve for my side link that I've been putting off adapting because of the metric adaption and tight fit.

Luckily I bought a top link with a lock valve back when I put it on so I don't have to adapt that one.
