The buzzards had already started tenderizing this beast even though it was only hit the night before, so I didn't want to waste any time gettting it out of there.

Don't blame you - This isn't a good time of year to consider salvaging road kill especially if it laid there over night. For some reason your post just brought that story to mind.

Don't try this at home, kids: Used the rear blade on the loader to work the compost pile - and the bucket for some clean-up work, etc.

Another really nice day out today, and one of today's jobs was to mill another older Cherry log, so I loaded one on the mill with my tractor. Once I opened it up, it was pretty nice inside,

Here's the slab wood that came off it, I turned it all into firewood,

I ended up with a pretty nice pile of Cherry,

Then it was off to cleaning some tree's out of the edge of my hayfields!

I hear ya SawyerBob. I bush-hogged 20A this evening and counted 9 big trees storms(1tornado) took down this spring. Two big Walnut trees blew down/were uprooted last Jan. Both fell on my old pole barn. Cleaning them up I'll leave to a professional, they fell across a creek and the main trunk of both is about 5' above the creek. The other 7 are on the other side of a different creek, which can't be driven across with tractor until this fall during the dry season. I have to drive into the creek, then up the creek to where I can drive over the other bank.
I still haven't figured out how to pull logs out, because that creek is just wide enough for my tractor, and pulling them straight across presents its own problems.

I had a section of drive/road where I couldn't grade out the wheel ruts any more, So today I tail gate spread from the one-ton 4 loads, 12.6 ton, of 3/4" Stay-Mat over 350' of road.

Then I shaped it with the back of my rear blade to make an even crown.

Last I packed it with the one-ton. Couldn't quite reach a narrow strip in the center.

The first picture looks unbelievably smooth !
What is “stay-mat” ?

I guess it is a local name here that applies to a road surface gravel mix that packs well - like "crusher run". What I get is from a local Pike plant. It is all crushed ledge and is a mix from 3/4" crushed rock down to stone dust with a little clay added.

With a little practice it tail gates out pretty well. On that stretch I ran down each side of the road with a load so there was double coverage in the center and thin on the edges. Makes it easy to crown.

Here is a 3 minute video I made several years ago .
