Our power company cut down a path of our trees about 650’ x 15’ that would encroach on new power lines. They were nice enough to limb them all up and mulch the limbs. Lots of trees down.

Broke down and purchased a 72” grapple from Kioti. Made my life way easier that the way i usually move the wood. I usually only work on a few down or standing dead trees. Theres alot of trees cut. Hard to tell by pics.

I worked on them last 2 days…lots of more days left.

I tried to send my drone up to take pics…..but the Ravens were not allowing me to do this…they kept chasing my drone. Like kamikaze birds.

^^^^^^ That will give you something to do with your new grapple for a long while. Seems odd to see power lines on both sides on the road.

The far set are Bonneville Power high tension lines, the near set are local distribution lines. Cant be on same poles.

400 mile round trip to northern Michigan today to help a friend start cleaning up after the devastating ice storm they had a couple weeks ago. Most of the area is still without power after 12 days and not likely to get it back for some time. I’ve never seen anything like it. 6 hours on the chipper and barely put a dent in the mess, pics just don’t do it justice.View attachment 3252408
What kind of chipper is that? PTO powered?

Moved a small stone for landscaping yesterday.

Needed more counterweight, should have swapped the weight box for the chipper, but was too lazy.

Wrapped up mowing before the storm. Last evening the thunder came as I was walking back to the house after parking the tractor. The bluish clouds in the picture looked a lot blacker in real life.

Tilled, put down 20 yards of loam out front and fill and loam by the barn, then
Barn fill and ressed May 2025.jpg
Front yard reseed May 2025.jpg
reseeded before we get a week of rain.

Had some puddling after 1" of rain and thunder storms last night so may need to put more seed eventually.

Expensive dirt :) without rocks 30$ yard delivered - here in NE it's usually mixed with compost or manure. I get from a guy that has horses and mixes it and sits for a year or more then screens it.

All we have here are rocks (glacial till) on the top 3-4' down with large rocks - and out by the barn where I drive over it was rutted so I used some of his tillings (which are small rocks and soil from screening) as the base over the ruts, then top dressed with loam/dirt and seeded.

I got the Bobcat fuel problem fixed and mowed a lower field.
Still a little sick so I didn't push it. But it was nice to be out working.

Sodded an area in the front yard disturbed by recent water service work. First had to remove some clay and rock from the area, then brought in some top soil from my pile. Then installed the sod. Got smart and attached my weight box for this one....

Sod is cheating  I mowed for an hour. I got hot, It's the first 100º day of the year....besides the hour meter hit 400 which means it's time for an oil change.
Oil is draining overnight to let every last drop fall out. It didn't look too bad, still had a little dark amber to it. Not completely black and still slippier than snot.

Finished the oil change this AM. Greased her thoroughly. Don't forget that front axle center pivot while your greasing. Kubota manual says to remove the plug on one side and send in new grease until new grease comes out the plug hole. Ready to mow again (y)

Using my new-to-me bagger! This thing works great! I created a thread for it, if anyone has questions let me know.

Just another rainy, dreary Saturday here. My only seat time was sitting in the truck, looking up at my soggy field.

Another sunny nice day here today, I cleaned out a ditch today,

and dumped it along side my back garden to widen it out a bit,

Then I took my Howard Rotavator and tilled over it,

New tractor runs that Howard just as it should!

After it dries out a bit more, I'll till it again and plant a row of Cana Lillies in it.

Do you plant the Canna tubers (bulbs?) directly, or start them in pots? We usually get them going inside to give them a head start. One year I saved seed and started those the following spring; I'd read that they don't come true to the parent and can produce unique plants.
That may be true but mine looked just like the plants I started vegetatively.

I've been direct seeding my own bulbs for years and years, I dig them every fall and sell 2/3 of them in the spring to a greenhouse and then plant the last third for that's years crop.

I've been doing that for a LONG time and always have the same plants come up every year, nothing usual at all.
