I have a GX345 and bought a used snow thrower for it, its like brand new. The seller gave me a set of tire chains and 4 weights with it. He said he always put the chains on but didn't really know if he needed them or not since he never tried cleaning the snow without them.
Do you guys use tire chains or will the big tires and weights be enough ? How hard is it to get the chains on right ?

Ive used all types of tires and they always need chains for the ice. Tires alone grip snow fine, but not the ice. The chains are easy to get tight once you master the. I put them on in October and leave them on until April.

Living in Wisconsin, I ran chains and weights and fluid in the tires all the time with a X740 and others similar in size. The heavy snowblower hanging over the front lightens up the back end of the tractor. I wouldn't even try blowing snow without chains and weights in New York unless it was a level small drive or sidewalk. But then a foot of snow will stick you even then.

Where can I find chains for my full size tractor/loader? Both front and rear would be nice to have.

I did the drive way today and did not need chains, never spun a wheel. Maybe in deeper snow or ice I will need them.

You'll find that time, so just be prepared to have them ready. Much easier to put on when the tractor isn't stuck too. Don't ask how I know that. :confused2: :mur:

Hard pack snow is bad but ice is worse. A descent set of chains for the 18.4"x 30" on my tractor are well over a $1k. If my tires can punch through the snow and get down to the surface i have plenty of traction but when the road is hard packed it becomes a challenge on the hills it does'nt matter how much you weigh on a descent incline you need chains

Chains are cheaper than repairing the tractor, I have overy a thousand dollars in chainING up all four tires on my deere.
