Yep, Harvey, I remember when you moved that bed onto Lucy and had to do a bit of modification. My brother came up from near Waco today. He got his completed truck yesterday, and it's an 11' bed (had to cut the corners off to provide sufficient clearance when turning with the fifth-wheel. I think the new F550s require a little longer bed back beyond the rear axle because the fuel tank is now behind the rear axle. Overall, the truck is about 25' long, and I'll say the 2008 Ford diesel has to be the quietest diesel I've heard. And my brother says this 2008 F550 with the 6.4L diesel and 4.88 differential is definitely more powerful than his 2000 F350 with the 7.3L diesel. But I'm sure glad I don't have to work on those machines. They've pretty well filled up the space under the hood the last few years and I do believe this 2008 model is the fullest I've seen.

Bird,
You know that scaffoling on the top of your brothers truck? That reminds me of what i see over here in the summer time. The north african arabs, mainly Moroccain and Tunisian they all seem to go back home over the summertime, they drive across Europe and down to southern Spain and take the ferry across the straight of gibralter in Spain across to Africa. There are also ferries in Marseille, Barcelona etc, that serve that summer business of the magraban going back home for summer vacation. But anyway oyu see them driving down the expressway the ca is packed to the gills and on top they have that same type of scaffolding jsut loaded with who knows what and always covered by a tarp and string. i alwys wonder hwo the cars hold up under the load. That scafolding on your brothers truck looks jsut like that. if he ever wants to sell that truck he could probably get a small fortune for it over here.

On a similar not we live not to far from where the gypsies gather every summer, Sait Marie de la mer. 50,000 Gypsies from all over the world but mostly from europe hitch up their campers and hear to Saint Marie de la mer. When the gypsie gathering is going to take place our highways are loaded with them and they travel in caravans of anywhere form 15 to 20 campers in a group. They ahve thier campout for a couple weeks, elect a new king and then they all disburse, only to come back next year. No scaffoldingin on thier trucks though, but very nice campers!

Rox, I told my brother he was going to look like a Gypsy band going down the road. He and his wife spend the winters at Elm Mott, TX, just north of Waco and the summers in Ellensburg, WA, about 90 miles east of Seattle. He has some idea about possibly buying a golf cart someday and building ramps to get it up there on top to go back and forth. And he built a big picnic table he plans to take back and forth. He also bought a pretty heavy smoker in Waco that he wants to take Ellensburg in the spring. And he says he wants to take 800 to 900 pounds of firewood with him to Ellensburg because they don't have pecan and mesquite up there to use in the smoker and he says you can't find decent barbecue up there unless you cook it youself.

But I think he does have almost as much fun as he would if he had good sense.:D

Oh, here's a picture of the 1991 Ford truck he rigged up to pull a different (smaller) fifth-wheel back then. I took this picture at Prudhoe Bay when he and I drove up there July 4, 1991. Of course, we didn't take the trailer on that trip, but we did have several barrels of gasoline right behind the drom box. There's only one service station between Fairbanks and Prudhoe Bay and you sure don't want to have to pay their prices.

Don,

I drove past this gate today and rememberd that I had a picture of it that I posted awhile ago. It's about the most impressive entrance gate that I've seen. I realy should stop and measure how big those posts are.

Eddie, for as many great pictures as you take and post for our enjoyment, I am surprised that you don't have Photoshop on your computer. Here is your gate again, a little brighter though. No charge. Just keep the pics coming.

I don't know what your photoshop did to the photo. But contrast is very milky looking on my computer.

Slightly boosting the Gamma (maybe a tad less than weldingisfun did if that is what he did) reveals color and detail not visible in the original posted version. It is a definite improvement.

You can't easily make IDEAL from a flawed original. Oh, by the way, you don't need Photoshop or even Photoshop Essentials to "fix" this picture. The totally free and very good photo editor, IRFANVIEW is available for a free download from irfanview.com. It does not nag you. It is easy to use and does over 90% of what over 90% of users need and it does it fast and easy. I have been a satisfied user for over 10 years as have many others I know. You can start Irfanview, "fix" a picture and be done before Photoshop can load.

I don`t if I would go in that gate, I would be afraid that they wouldn`t let me out.

That gate is just outside the little town of Edom Texas in Van Zandt county. I don't know anything about the place, except there are two gates like this. The other one is just the wood posts and fancy metal gates, but doesn't have the rock collums.

I have two clients that are real close to there, and I will be driving past them every day in a few weeks. I'll take some better pics of it and maybe even measure how big those logs are.

In all buildings, I think wood, iron and rock are the three things that add up to the perfect building or structure. If you have just one, it always seems that you are lacking something. If you have two, it usually looks pretty good. When you have all three, and it's done tastefully and profesionally, it's the most amazing thing there is in my opinion. That gate has all three.

I agree.

That is truly a piece of art, you can tell the person/people take pride in what they do.

After changing my mind and going for the simple preformed cattle guard beam the only question was if I could move it with my tractor. Harvey do you have any more pics?

Don to move more weight with your loader run a chain through the round tube on the loader arms down to the beam. This make a big difference and not change the weight on the front end of tractor.......Larry

Don I don't have any more pics. However, today I started making the posts for the rail fence and I prepared the sixteen foot six inch pipe posts for the gate. I also met with the client east of Rockwall and if I can get a locate from Cash water district we'll be setting posts tomorrow for the big timber entryway.

Bear with me, I'm slow, well, since I've got old, I'm even slower.

Tomorrow evening I'll have more pictures hopefully. It's supposed to be cold and wet Wednesday so I'll be working on fence posts and maybe some gate stuff, more pictures.

Did I ever do a show and tell on the steel rock sign?

You remember Tom and Michelle at Pearson Stone I'm sure. Last year I made them a sign for their new location.

Larry, good advice. That was my next plan if the bucket hook did not work. I know you can't tell it on the picture but I needed that extra foot for the second beam. The tractor bumper was almost up against the trailer wheel when I lifted before I pulled the truck forward. When the beam was up about 6" I put some pieces of pipe under it so it would roll as I pulled the trailer away.

Harvey, We haven't seen the steel stone sign.

Take the tooth bar off. Must be limiting some of your lift.
We are on the road Sunday. It's going to be in single digits here Sunday. Any temperatures not below freezing will be good. If you do not have all the work done by the following weekend I can help.

I didn't even think of the toothbar, that would have increased the lift by 200 pounds.

Ahh the snowbirds are descending. That is a sure sign it will be getting colder, I better get busy while it is still warm. :D
