I like your rear weight idea. How much does it weigh?

Not sure, don't have a big enough scale :D
One thing I would do different if I did it again would be to change the placement of the top link. As you can see I have to be careful of how high I lift it or else I end of hitting the ballast and bending the top link.

Not sure about his, but I did the same thing for my B3030. I used a 30 gallon garbage can and it weighs 540 pounds. I'll try to find the thread with pics.

I believe mine might have been a 30 gallon as well but it's not quite as full as yours, so I'll say 500lbs

Btw, awesome scenery Tollster!

Ok. I decided to quit being so lazy and figure it out.

Concrete weighs about 94#/cuft
There is 6.42 gal/cuft.

So a 30 gal garbage can holds 4.67 cuft which figgers out to 438#. :)

Thank you, it was too much work!
I had to use those fence post to skid the stones backwards. The hill was too steep to do it sideways, and I could not come in from the bottom do to the wall. So I skidded them up the hill on that steel plate, onto the 4" fence posts, then let gravity do its thing, while my neighbor alternated the post to keep them moving, I just eased it back on the BX.
It took about 1 month to get them all situated.
It was harder trying to place them, because of the angles of the stones, and the color. Not only that, but I knew I would only have one chance to get them right, I think I could have done better, but it was my first one.
We did the stone walls last year, this was the smaller one, the dark area is a slate bench, the other one is closer to the house. I read up some of rock gardens, but there isn't much info out there on buillding them. The one thing that help all my wifes plants live this summer and I am sure it made a big difference, is that I tried to angle all the stones into the hill. It really helps get the rain into the soil and not run off.
Stones are very addicting!

Heres a shot looking down from the upper wall taken lat year, you can see the rock garden isn't there yet.

And this is the whole upper wall, I had to piece the pics togther because I didn't have a wide angle lens. This is when we finished it last year. Most of my planting have been on the lower one this year.

Ever since I got that **** BX, my projects have gotten out of hand! I used to be happy just planting a big rootball! Its a great machine and I am glad I didn't settle for anything less! I am always amazed. That 1 ton rock lifts the rear tires of my bother inlaws 50 bota using the pallet skids{ He loaded it into my trailer}. He seem surprised i was able to place it with my little machine.

Yup, the first time I lifted my ballast I bent my top link into a bannana shape. It is now my top link for ballast only, specially designed for that purpose:D

I've always read that concrete weighs about 150lbs per cuft.

Haha, I like that idea! No sense bending another brand new top link. :D

I think you are right. I looked at a couple other websites and they agree with you.

Neighbor had a large Oak tree taken down, knew I burn wood so had the tree guys save the good stuff for me. These are about 4 foot round, 18 inches thick.

There was a bunch of this stuff. Took me about 4 hours to move the entire tree to the back of our property. Loved every minute of it.:D

And no...I'm not giving the camera the finger....it was a thumbs up to the wife as she took the pic.:)

By the way, my tractor is a BX1500. Bought it new about 3 years ago and it just turned 400 hours (hummmm....time for an oil change:rolleyes:)

I've got a fallen oak out back in the woods I going to cut up and move also. 450 hours on mine. Tough little tractors aren't they;) Just hooked up the post hole digger on mine this weekend. Not quite as compact anymore, but still fits in my garage nicely..:) Nice little carry all you have on the back.

No doubt...she's done everything I've asked and surprised me with the capability more than once. I really enjoy every minute of it. There are no bad days when you get to spend some good quality seat time. Think I'll go mow the lawn. :D

What can a BX do? Leave you wanting a bigger tractor!! :D :D

Ah...this should be more like...what "Can't" a BX do!

When I got mine 7 or 8 years ago I found a deal I couldn't refuse. This guy had a 6' rear blade and a 6' BH finishing mower he wanted rid of. Told me I could have both for $1000. Done...didn't blink an eye. Local dealer told me that the Bush Hog was WAY too heavy for the BX. they said it wouldn't lift it. OH yeah? Really?

Got news for um...works just dandy. 560# deck...c'mon. That's like small potatoes for my 2200. Only problem is the weight of the machine versus the weight of the deck on steep slopes.

So, as a bigger challenge our contractor told me that I could save a lot of money if I cleared the woods for our new house myself. Being rather...well...a bit of a tight wad that got me motivated to start cutting down and moving trees. of the 3 acres, I needed about 1.5 cleared. Started 2 weeks ago. Almost completely clear. A Stihl saw, a BX, and some heavy chain. Just my dad and I doing the work. Priceless.

LOL, yep, mine's certainly done that a number of times. When I have those thoughts, I remind myself that I got a BX not to compete with fullsize equipment, but rather to compete with a shovel and a wheelbarrow. Then suddenly my BX is incredible again. :D

A lot of us could have bought a larger tractor if we wanted.

I love mine for the simple fact that it will out maneuver a larger tractor in tight places, in the woods etc. It's much easier to store and still has plenty of power for my needs. Mine is sitting in the garage right now with a post hole digger attached. There's still plenty of room to spare in the front for my generator and in the back for a work bench.

Takes a little longer with ground engaging endeavors but I'm not in any big hurry anyway I enjoy the seat time. Now if I owned 5 plus acres I might have opted for a larger tractor. ;)

Certainly this will be the case at some point. Likely if I got one 2 sizes up I would run into this at some point. For the thousands I saved relative to the few times a year I may need a little more power, It likely makes sense for me to rent one for a day. I still get the convenience of a machine that can handle 98% of what I throw at it for much less cost and much less storage, maintenance and general overhead. So far it fits my 1 acre perfect and I will likely loan it to my dad on his 5 acres in the future.

I would love to have a Ferrari instead of my toyota. It would get me there so much faster but relative to 99% of what I use it for. In stop and go traffic, it would be a little waste and I can always rent one for the day!
