The best repair method?

Now that's news to me. Never knew you could braze on cast iron. I will have to remember that one. Any specialflux needed, or just use what comes on the rod?

OK here's some "exciting" pics of the repair.

First a shot to show the general area where the line goes. Its the upper line of the main bucket, right side cylinder.

Next a closeup with line still installed. Note the glob of brazing material. The main leak was just to the left of it.

Here's one with the glob ground away and showing the crack in the previous braze.

While looking through my pics I just realized that in my haste to get the tractor to work, and wanting to leak test it before posting a picture of my repair, I installed the line and forgot to take pics of the finished project.

My braze held up well, I did notice there was a slght ooze at the compression sleeve, under the nut. I'll tighten it up a bit to see if that stops it. If not I'll not worry about it.

I'v repaired wear points in straight lines with a sleeve brazed over the thin spot cut tube find another piece of tubing id just over the od of the repair at least the same wall clean all the paint off both pieces clean with alcohol let it dry braze it up.

For splits drill a hole in the tube at the ends of the crack clean paint off clean with alcohol make sure its dry and braze it up.

I knew that, but really thought it only applied to cast iron. In my case on this repair, I wasn't really sure if this was just a crack in a previous repair, or the line itself.

So far it has held up great.

I just finished digging an 85ft x 2ft wide x 18" deep french drain with this backhoe. So far so good.

Years ago I did NDT work. While going to school to become certified they really pounded into your head that the only way to repair a crack is to remove it, either by drilling the ends or grinding it out. I don't know if that applies to brazing though since you're not heating the metal up as fast or to as high as welding would.
