Does that extend to the other branches of the military?

FYI, I couldn't serve...no one would have me!

Obviously other branches have there sayings etc. Semper-Fi is however a term unique to the Marine Corps.

Not to imply there is no faithful among the others.

Hey Robert, some of us get together at the World AG Expo in Tulare, I think that there may be a couple of newer guys showing up this year, maybe you could make it down to it too. Second week of February, Tue, Wed, Thur. LOTS of tractors and implements to look at.

I could be interested in coming down, it is only about 3 hours from me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but currently the Coast Guard is DoD or DHS isn't it?

It's been under DHS since 2003. It was under the Treasury Department until 1967, when it was switched to the Department of Transportation. (I served from 1965-1969).

I always use that but in a different way...when I'm told "ah, the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy", I respond accordingly.

Love the bantering among the branches. Funny how it subsides during a real conflict...

Do you know why the Navy has the Marines and the Army has a Mule? Well. . . the Army got 1st choice!

Sorry, there just weren't enough squids being represented here. We actually love Marines, especially when we are waving goodbye to them as they head to the beach.:D

...I'm so sorry. Lord forgive me for that there...it's just been so long since I could have some fun that it all slipped out.;)

Must be I'm insecurities that would prompt me to "quote" such a post:D

That's ok! I'm sure most men are use to having their linen-keepers wave bye' as the men head off to war!

You are right...this is still fun:)

Hey Jim, I hope westbrooklawn doesn't think this thread failed! Quite the contrary, look at all the personalities spilling out here and having fun without real malice!

Good point ronjhall. You tell him! My feelings are hurt...someone give me a tissue so I can go back to MAMBY PAMBY land!

:laughing: We always grunted as we put the cuffs on the Jar Heads...

The only altercation I was ever involved with that included a soldier was at an Army nco club.
A drunk army sgt spilt his beverage and knocked the beverage out on the hand of a fellow marine... He proceeded to be relieved of the funding for replacements by force as his entire squad looked on.. The 6 marines present stood to assist since we were outnumbered 25 or more to 1!

Not a single soldier moved, not even to help him up from the floor...

Now if that were to have been reversed and on a marine base, the 6 soldiers would have been in the hospital or the brig..

A marine can do wrong, but a marine will correct. If a marine does wrong and a member of another service were to try that, you handle him first then you resume corrective action.....

Someone needs to invent a sarcastic font.

Remember the SarcMark came out a few years ago, not sure how long ago. It was on the national news. It never caught on most likely because they wanted to charge for it. It is now a free download for a limited time. Probably wouldn't be worth much since most people would not know what it meant. I had forgotten what it looked like.

Well I see we have been having alot of fun since I've been here last..

*Drunk Army Sgts
*Marines forcing paybacks
*Handcuffs
*Squids
*Grunting

Why does that not sound right?

That's fantastic. I'm part of a group like that too - not even close to the level of undying loyalty that USMC people have - but still, it's pretty cool.

I'd imagine that whether or not a Marine ever sees combat, even the time spent in training brings you close together.

What does Semper Fi mean??

Missed this first time I read it! What group are you part of?

Impolite army sgt. and clueless squad ! Based on the Sgt. and squad leaders conduct it should not surprise you that his squad probably felt he got what he deserved. It would be a dangerous mistake to assume all Army Squads or Squad leaders would react the same way...;)

By the way as a side note you posted > " A marine can do wrong, but a marine will correct." I am keeping in mind the saying that there are no former Marines...once a Marine, always a Marine..With that in mind I have a tool box in my shop right now with the US Marine decal on it loaded with a set of sockets and other tools left behind by a Marine tenant of mine that was also a local police officer ..he beat his wife, trashed the house I rented to him and left a total mess..He never corrected and I had to sue him to recover damages..he left the state to avoid coming to court...I'm just saying....

I'm a surgeon.

5 years of residency and our exams are something that only other surgeons understand. Having said that, I've never been shot at.....
