Interesting point Marlowe made regarding the believability of a man sitting on a tractor. Whether or not you actually own a tractor,... if you post on this forum, you are automatically assumed to be connected to a "tractor".

OR,..at least I, personally,..in my mind,..without thinking much about it, just connect you with a tractor. Because I live in farm-country and am surrounded by men, (and women) on tractors and have been around tractors all my life,... I have a great deal of respect for all, or "most",.. tractor-people!!

That said,.. I, (not always), but often, am curious about the poster and will check his/er personal-profile. I am often flabbergasted to learn just "who" or "what" this particular,....."tractor-person",... "is",..or "was",.. their particular "life-experience",.. in general, a particular profession,.. or "job" experience,.. military experience,.. perhaps something personal like a health issue, from childhood perhaps that they have somehow overcome AND been successful at a job or profession that that particular health issue would "normally" have been a major deterrent.

Posters on this forum,... are such that (most) don't brag of their non-tractor qualifications or accomplishments or experiences in life that aren't directly related to the forum,... unless, of course "encouraged" to qualify the info or further describe something to us.

Sorry for the confusion here,..(it's late, I'm beat) but the point I'm attempting to make, with great respect to all,..... just how impressed I am with the "qualifications" of some of the "people-sitting-on-tractors"!!! You may be surprised at the personalities you may pass on a country road with an "old straw hat, just hangin down over that big tractor wheel". !!! You take him for granted never realizing "who" or perhaps "what" he/she "was" (or is,..in another life?)

Then, we come to the ordinary-everyday-tractor-person,.... nothing more (or less) than an ordinary-person-sitting-on-a-tractor, . . . .......and THAT, dear friends, is the "point" of this story,.. we all, appear to the rest of us as: an ordinary person sitting on a tractor AND we may,.. or may not,.. impress you?

BUT,... as Marlowe suggests,.... isn't their something more believable about "a-man-sitting-on-a-tractor?"Perhaps NOW huh?..(Hey, it's late, 3:55AM)

This is an interesting Thread,..and these are just my thoughts for now.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to "all" of "us"!!!! (ALL OVER THE WORLD)!!

That's great! Now we just have to make it a universally accepted meme, LIKE HOW ALL CAPS ARE EQUATED WITH SHOUTING.

After we've accomplished this, the next task is to come up with a universal signal for "Hey, genius! You left your blinker on!"

It wouldn't be the first time I've been accused of dry humor, or sarcasm. I think we should all learn to take ourselves just a bit less serious.

Just to be clear, I was not being sarcastic atleast not in a flip kinda way. I meant that...that was great!

...and I agree with you about taking ourselves a bit less serious.

what so ever do you mean???
why yes... Albeit a Hollywood version... but as the old saying goes, I don't if it is the old breed or the new breed as long as it is the Marine Breed!

Poor guy had to suffer through basic right through the fence from the San Diego Airport...

I have to wonder how many will understand what you mean by that.....
Even misspelled, I started laughing right away!!

Interesting thought!

Mispelled and still understood? Just shows the depth of how misguided you/we are :D

You guys are all Marines??

You're truly an impressive bunch.... seriously. My hat's off to you.

Does "Unc's Misguided" = the USMC?? Forgive my ignorance, please....

Unc's Misguided is an old name someone came up as an alternative to USMC.. Uncle Sam's Misguided Children..
And in grand Marine Corps style we took it and made it part of the legend...
Here are a few more.
Devil dogs- the Germans called Marines that in 1917 at the battle of Belleu Wood in the Argonne Forrest in France. More accurately it was Tefuel Hunden (please forgive the spelling)

Leathernecks-given to Marines from the revolutionary war for the high collars worn to protect the neck from sword blows during battle, often aboard ship when the ship was boarded during sea battles

Fire fighters- for the way the Marines fought at the Pusan perimeter in the Korean war.

There are more names and traditions. Bottom line, as I was told recently, Marines regardless of when they served, how old they are, race, etc are and always act like brothers/sisters more than any other group.
The comraderie between Marines is something that is hard to explain, but it is seldom missing when 2 or more are together...

I can say that I have done things for a fellow Marine that I may not have done for anyone else.

In the airport, the other day I saw a young Marine in line to eat. He was by himself, I walked up bought his lunch said Semper Fi and God bless, then rushed to my flight...
The only words exchanged were thank you sir, and my reply was to do our Corps proud. The smile I got was beyond words....

2 weeks ago I met a vietnam era Marine in Walmart and we talked for 30 minutes before his friend (a squid, err I mean old sailor) walked up and then we engaged in a favorite Marine past time.. Picking on the squid.. they were both over 20 years older than me, but it didn't matter we are Marines...

Well, I guess you can say being a Marine is close to my heart......

That's fantastic. I'm part of a group like that too - not even close to the level of undying loyalty that USMC people have - but still, it's pretty cool.

I'd imagine that whether or not a Marine ever sees combat, even the time spent in training brings you close together.

What does Semper Fi mean??

"Semper Fidelis is Latin for "Always Faithful". Well known in the United States as the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps (and often shortened to Semper Fi in Marine contexts),"

Taken from Wikipedia.

Hi Jer,
Wasn't trying to ignore, was out taken tractor for a walk...
:tractor:O0o......

Tucker is correct. Semper Fidelis (Semper Fi) does mean "Always Faithful" in Latin.

Taken from the Red-Monster at Parris-Island while studying Marine Corps history and customs and curtesy.

Does that extend to the other branches of the military?

FYI, I couldn't serve...no one would have me!

OMG, 'nother JarHead here?

I always use that but in a different way...when I'm told "ah, the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy", I respond accordingly.

Love the bantering among the branches. Funny how it subsides during a real conflict...
