is anyone using synthetic motor oil or hyd. fluid in thier tractors(thoughts and commments) and if so what brand and # .....thanks chris
This is a much discussed topic in the Oil, Fuel & Lubricants forum. Many people use synthetics, Amsoil is one of the frequently mentioned oils and hyd fluid. I suggest reading through the existing threads before posting a question in that forum. There hasn't been much new information posted in years. Lots of old arguments by new people, but no new information.chris.fam@centurytel.net said:is anyone using synthetic motor oil or hyd. fluid in thier tractors(thoughts and commments) and if so what brand and # .....thanks chris
thanks tractor legend,i had already made up my mind to run synthetic oil after the 50 hr. break in didnt want to ruffle any feathers,like whats better or worse, just looking for brands and compatability with kioti tractors, and maybe if anyone was using it in thier hst system(no not motor oil) -(synthetic hyd oil)TractorLegend said:I use RedLine oil in my Kioti engine- maybe an overkill- but I don't spend money at casinos so what the hey?
I plan to milk this tractor along until I'm old and grey (maybe 6 months from now? :~}

Being in the auto repair field for 24 yrs I must admit I don't look in the oils forum anymore. I tend to get too argumentative and controversial then leaving feeling like no one knows less about oil than me.
In the end no one can tell you if you use X type oil and change it at X interval your engine will last X amount of time as opposed to Y type oil or stretching the interval to Y amount of time. Its all experience, conjecture and opinion.
What I can tell you based in fact is engines with flat tappet cams should run synthetic oil or racing oil as the racing oil has ZDDP (zinc diphosphate) which is the cushion interface between this critical metal to metal union. Zinc has been removed from modern conventional motor oils since it kills catalytic converters in the form of blowby. Remember all the cam lobes going flat in the late 70's and 80's? This is when they started removing the zinc from oil. Its not a big deal in most modern automobile engines since they run roller tappets. Synthetic oil has a beautifully low friction coefficient which is sufficient to run in flat tappet situations also.
To some it is, to others it's not. Depends why someone is buying synthetic. Same debate issue that has always come up in the Oils forum.Highbeam said:Seems expensive.
