Super high end sound system...sounds bad?

That's why the new spray nozzle is not okay and even though the fluid works, I would not buy it again for this reason. A simple tube like the old WD-40 cans is worlds better than the piece of crap they have on there now. Fluid runs out all over the place, nozzle trigger is hard to push. I won't buy WD-40 for the same reason. Half of it goes somewhere I really don't want it to go. Simply amazed that stuff like this gets designed and sold.

Kroil was like that for awhile. They finally improved the valve.

Deoxit though, also comes as a canister of a bunch of tiny rags soaked with the solution. Thats what I have. One rag is good for lots of applications -- if you can get to it with a rag.:confused3:

For you, Id say spray your aerosol on a little lint free cloth.

For years, all we ever used was specifically a zero residue cleaner, but I'm guessing it would do nothing to address oxidation. It worked well on potentiometers which are often a carbon strip with a metalic wiper.

So, must you remove the oxidation prior to treating it with the anti-oxidation stuff?

The deoxit actually will take light oxidation off with a swipe or two and restores good electrical contact immediately. Residue should be wiped off in a cursory fashion. Remanent molecular residue drys and protects.

With the specific situation with this receiver the wipes would not work since the solution needs to go into the pots. It was hard enough with this crappy spray cap to get down into them because access was tight. A simple slightly flexible tube would have worked better. As it is drops of the stuff got onto the circuit board and other parts. The residue might attract and hold dust which could increase heat.............but, this unit almost 40 years old....a butterfly could sneeze over it and cause a problem.

It is shame to ruin a good product with an "ingenious" solution to a problem that didn't exist.............which can be said of lots of things these days.

The Miller Stephenson Non Residue Contact Cleaner was great for pots. You would find a little hole and deluge the thing. It almost always seemed to get where needed.

I saw in a spy catalogue in which they had spray, with which you could spray a closed letter and read the contents. I found this non residue spray to be the same. No hint at all when it dried.
