Been forty years since I have seen that trick used, on a ford 2n tractor..but that time my neighbor chained the helper log to the tire chains. Out she came from having sunk through the ice on a bog hole up to the tranny case.. and she was dragging a big elm tree trunk behind. It is a smart idea, but the tractor driver needs to be darn careful with the clutch so as not to break an axle.

Very cool. Never heard of it. We can learn a lot from the old ways. They knew a thing or two about how to make stuff happen.
