One more thing. If the battery is below 13.6 with the solar system charging, charge it with a standard charger, the attach the solar system for charge maintenance.

Very true. Here in florida, I even get away with solar charged electric fence controllers. I've got a 4v and a 6v that have been going 2 plus years with no outside intervention.
