I bought( I know) this Wallenstein splitter from my FIL's dealership. It's a great little machine but the working height isn't high enough, my challenge is to all of you. How would I raise the working height of this machine in the easiest way.

Stack some 2 x 8 x 2 ft.

Car ramps, extend the tongue stand on the splitter.

That's what I did today JJ, just looking for a more permenant solution. I was thinking about welding some riser blocks and putting on bigger wheels.

How high do you want to go? Bigger wheels will help, might have rework the fenders. It also looks like the splitter rail is just bolted to the cross frame/reservoir, you could bolt in spacers there. Possibly peice of heavy wall square tubing.

Here's what I did to the Poulan splitter that we (father, BIL and I) bought new in 1979. After 27 years of back pain, I raised it fom 12" high to 32" high and added a work table as shown. (Also rebuilt the cylinder and replaced the engine and pump). What a difference!

I would pull the 4 bolts that hold the axle to the ibeam, insert a block (12 stacked 2x8s or chunk of ibeam) between the axle and ibeam and bolt through the block to hold everything back together.

How are your axles fastened to your oil resevoir? Welded or bolted ?

Just took a closer look, 4 carriage bolts keep it all together, so I'll add a piece of 8" I beam and that should do it. Thanks everybody

I don't know why I didn't do it years earlier!
Had about 6" snow here in southeast NB a few weeks ago, but it only stayed around for a couple of days. I cooked steaks on the barbie on Dec. 6, very comfortable in summer t-shirt. Picked the last of my parsnips today, unusually warm weather but it's supposed to turn cold tonight.

So today I got a start on lifting the splitter working height. Picked a piece of 12" I beam and started pulling the fittings of etc. There is a stretch kit available but it's worth about 225$ so I have all the parts I need now including paint and I'm out $68. Now just gotta finish it

Might want to consider an angle brace from the axle to the splitter beam just in case you drop wheel in a chuck hole or hit a curb while towing it,

The easiest but ugliest way would be to reposition the angle of your hitch. Instead of coming straight off, put the hitch at an angle. It would be easy to calc, pull your stand up, lower the hitch till the end of the beam is level with the top of your hitch ball. Put a straightedge between the two. Measure the angle between the hitch and straight edge.

Little bit of cutting and welding, problem solved. Won't be the prettiest thing. Might want to make it detachable so it doesn't interfere with your table plans.

Good luck.

I think if I just invert a 4-6" drop hitch that will be enough vertical gain to make it
