Snow Plowing a Gravel Drive - Problem Solved!!!

Yes I assume casters would work but I am not a fan especially in the winter - I would think the casters would be digging in and leaving a trail of marks etc. I prefer a nice clean look.
I’m sure they would freeze up and then the wheels wouldn’t turn. Then they would drop down and dig into the gravel like skid shoes.

I know this is an old thread but I had a Fisher V plow that used a rubber flap in the middle for proper clearing. Well I cut out two pieces of a stall mat so it could be 2x as thick. Even used fender washer for backing. It didnt even last 2 storms. They do bend alot though. Cutting the piece out of a bias ply tire worked for years after that and sold it working.

On a side note..all the big parking lot snow pushers you see usualy have a rubber edge thata very very thick. That's how they clean so well.

When you analyze how windshield wipers work you'll soon accept why stall matt strips do so well on a plow blade.----- I.E.- you are wiping, not scraping.

I'll repeat my solution of cutting matts:
Simply drape the matt over a 2 x 4 and use a fresh blade and some sort of guide.
Draping will open up the cut as U move along and greatly reduce friction.

When my mile long gravel driveway has not yet frozen hard - I reverse the rear blade 180 degrees and go like smoke and oakum.

This works fine for me. Gravel stay where its been placed - snow bladed to the ditches.
