My new 2 acre front lawn is a former hay field. It is so rough from being plowed and from the clumps of Timothy hay still growing that it is like cutting on a washboard. Any recommendations on how to smooth it out? My neighbor tried rolling his with a HUGE roller and it made little difference.

I had a similar problem with the property we bought. I ended up pulling a disc first in the direction of the furrows then with a lighter cut at a 45. I should have made one more pass perpendicular to the last one as there are still some bumps. At least now we can mow in any direction where before it was nearly impossible to travel across the furrows /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Kill the Timothy out with Round Up,disk, till or work the ground some how, drag it with a harrow or bed springs, seed it and hope for the best.I've tried everything under the sun to smooth out rough ground and this is to "my" notion the only way.

MReeter is right. If you really want smooth ground the only real way to do it is to start over.
