I have a 1969 Cub Cadet 125 that has started to smoke from the breather, especially when hot and under a load.

What is the cause and the fix for this?

It might be due to crankcase pressure caused by compression blow-by past the piston rings.. It might need a cylinder hone/bore and new rings.

Have you changed the oil lately?

What engine? Kohler "K" series? Like Bob says, given the age, you probably are ready for a rebuild. You could check compression to verify. The only other thing I could think of, is a stuck reed valve or blown out baffle pad in the breather box? I dont know what you have, but that could cause more oil vapor than normal to escape from the breather.
