Hello there! I just purchased a Cub Cadet 7260 with a FEL. I’m new to tractors and this is the first I’ve owned. I’ve run into an issue with the 3PH. It will only move up and down about 1 inch. The FEL works just fine under significant weight in all positions. Some other observations of the 3PH are below.
- I can freely move the hitch by hand up to the most upright position with very little effort.
- I cannot move it down further by hand or by standing on it with the pressure knob in the full open, closed or in between positions. It’s sort of in a “medium position”
- When it’s at its max “up” point (1” from “medium position”), it will hold with weight.
- The adjustment lever requires to push all the way down or up to move. The limiter is at the far ends.
Since the tractor has a FEL and from reading the owner’s manual, I understood that the transmission and hydraulics shared the same fill point as there was only one capacity mentioned and the manual stated to change transmission and hydraulic fluid together. I might need to mention I have a gear drive. Is this correct about the fluid? Is it all on the same “circuit”?
With the very little that I know, I am looking to do the following in attempt to fix the 3PH and wanted some feedback if I’m headed in the right direction as there doesn’t seem to be a multitude of info on these tractors.
1) Change the transmission/hydraulic oil and filter. Curious of how I would determine a blockage?
2) Change the 3PH piston seal and O-rings. Should I go ahead and do this during the fluid change?
3) Give up and have a shop fix it!
