I've been looking to buy or make one of those clamping tools... They look like you can clamp anything... anywhere...

I made myself one of these too, years ago after seeing them at a trade show. They had a piece of ABS 2" pipe pinched with one of theirs. great little tool, now I have to find mine!

Here's a fairly simple one.
If you use the plastic strapping and it becomes loose for some reason, there really isn't any good way to re-tighten it because once the tool that pulls the strap tight cuts it off too short to re-use that tool. I made a real simple winding tool to apply enough pressure to the strap to pull it tight again.
The winding tool is a piece of 1/2" OD steel tube with a slot in one end for the strap and a 17/64" hole drilled in the other end for a 1/4" bolt to act as the handle. A short piece of 1" square tube is also required to push against the retaining clip. I ground quarter-round slots in one end to keep the winder centered.
To re-tighten the strap, the loose end needs to be threaded through the square tube and the slot in the winder. Turning the winder will re-tighten the strap.

Here is a simple little welding clamp I made. It was not my idea. I stole it from someone else. You can live w/o one but it is so easy to make I think it is worth doing. It is a clamp for holding a cap just where you want it on a piece of tubing or a pad on the end of an angle leg, etc . Saves trying to do a tack while you are holding it about right. For anyone who didn't already know about this I thought it was worth showing.

Now here is a tool that was made over 50 years ago. The guy up the road gave it to me and he has had it 50 yrs and he said it was old and well used when he got it. I know what its made out of and what it's used for, do you?

Yes it is a staple puller and made from some kind of file.. I would like to know how he bent the end or did the old file have a handle or hook on it. The bent end it very strong.
