Shaving head

You're not like my mother in law are you? I've never heard her ever say the word "refrigerator". She will only call it an "ice box". There again, she grew up in eastern Kentucky. She says a lot of things that leaves me scratching my head...you'uns, we'uns, us,uns, they'uns etc. :)

I'm old enough to remember when everyone called it an "ice box" whether it ran on electricity or not (never knew anyone with a gas powered model until I got into RVing). I haven't heard anyone call a refrigerator an ice box for quite some time now. And to my mother, all motorhomes were "Winnebagos" just as all facial tissue is "Kleenex".:D

But you have a normal shaped head.

Yeah, that's another cruel joke momma nature played on me. I got this half egg sized mountain sticking out of the top of my head and being bald to boot it looks like the lunar landing module or something stuck up there! :p

Baldness is actually a sign of intelligence and it is easily proven................How many bald women do you see????????????????????

Woodchuckie: Did you mean a tuque, (pronounced: "tooook")? Up here in Canada a toboggon is a long wooden sled with front end rolled back. Used for many kids or adults to sit single file, scooting down a snow hill. Or sometimes for cargo, pulled by a dog team.

I'm trying to picture you in bed on a toboggan,....be quite an interesting bedtime ride me thinks,....? On the other hand, a French-Canadian "tuque" is much the same as a woolen "Watch-cap",...but usually a little longer and often more colourful. Now I can easily see you wearing one of these to bed,..I have worn my watch-cap to bed on very cold nights. Can you clarify please?

Sorry to Hi-jack the thread Czechsonofagun,....just didn't want this guy wearing the wrong thing to bed !!! That'd be a thread of interest: What do you wear to bed,.....on your bald head? Ha, ha! just kidding.

Shine 'er up !

Well that just points out the few differences in the English language as it changes from region to region.
Toboggan (hat) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Southern American English, Appalachian English, toboggan refers to a type of hat. This is sometimes shortened to boggan or lengthened to boggan cap. ...

Another regional term which was pointed out to me by a friend at work who had transfered from Miami OK when his tire plant shut down. He said he got such a kick when people referred to their garden hose as a hose pipe. Now that's what I have called it my entire life and thanks to him I now have to think about it to decide what to call that thing laying out in my yard.

Now that y'all have changed this thread from shaving to regional dialects, I can put in my 2 cents worth. New Orleans has many unusual regional dialects which I was not aware of until I traveled to other parts of the country and no one knew what I was talking about.

How many of you even know what our following common words mean:
neutral ground
banquette
alligator pear
beignet
flying horses
po boy
lagniappe
zink
ginny woman
shotgun house
Schwegmann's bag

This is a classic all time thread!!:D

I am mostly bald and would like to shave my head but my wife doesn't want me too. I guess she remembers my flowing rock n roll locks from the old days. I use a clipper and just mow er short.

As for regional dialects, I'm blown away by the toboggan thing. We all call it a toque hereabouts.

Dargo, I have heard of neutral ground but none of the others. It's interesting to see these differences. Once when travelling for business, I was in Philly and I asked for brown bread. They looked at me like I was from the moon. Finally we figured that I should ask for "wheat" bread.

Then, I went to Virginia and asked for wheat bread. You guessed it. Should have said "brown"..... (Might have been the opposite order but it did happen!).

My wife would tell you that I'm so hard headed that it's amazing I can grow hair on it. I too use the Wahl and the #2 attachment. Every hair is the same length but I do have some very thin spots.

Flowbee works great for my hair and I can do it myself. My hair grows too fast for a buzz cut and my ears stick out too much.

Now that "stocking cap" thing sure looks like a toque to this Canuck. ;)
