Sears/Kmart quickly disappearing

I was surprised by my nephew. He's his twenty now and i didn't think he had any interest in anything but playing, as was his uncle at that age:laughing: He spent a week at the house so he could complete his solo ticket for sky diving, first time i've been around him without his parents around. He followed me all around asking about the tools i was using, wanting to help pitching, splitting wood and stacking into the wood shed. Asked about the septic system, well etc. Wanted to know how i had the generator hooked up. I was completely floored. His whole family are more oriented toward city living, he was enthralled about living more rural like his aunt and uncle.

Just don't route your router through your router. Though I guess you could route a picture of your router through your router.
You could route a case, stand or shelf with your router for your router :D

Makes me think of that show Pickers, and the family has decided to start downsizing what they have and the guys spend all day going through all of it to find half a dozen things that they think are worth trying to resell in their stores. The rest of it is all junk. What's really amazing is how many places like this are out there!!!

I'm in the process of moving a bunch of stuff from the lean-to off of the side of my shop to a 40 foot sea container, and it gets more and more tempting to just through it all away. I'm not sure which is worse, creating a place to put it so I can find it, or if I really need to keep it.

I pity the fool if something were to happen to me right now... vehicles, tractors and tools spread across two states.

Seeing what others have gone through has me revisiting my overall plan... one thing that has been a big handicap is selling surplus vehicles... I have the hardest time getting anyone out... folks are just suspect when I give them my Oakland address... same cars and same ad but use my brothers address in Castro Valley no problem...

OSH is in the final stages... they were part of Sears and then Lowes and founded in 1931... 100 stores gone... not sure what will happen as the stores were all given make overs when Lowes entered the picture...

My friend that owns a small Ace has been having his own problems in San Leandro... a lot of it is online but his location has parking issues... a Chinese Restaurant opened with 100 table banquet room that was an old grocery store...

There were lots of neighborhood Hardware Stores... now not so many...

Was at Home Depot yesterday to pick up combo smoke detectors and no luck... none in stock... wanted to buy a few other things and no longer carried...

What's with Home Depot and only having two cashier registers open???

^^^^
The HD closest to me-90 miles away- has plenty of registers open, but all self serve with one person to help when the computers don't cooperate. I very rarely go there, perhaps twice in the last 2 years. I frequent a smaller chain which is half the distance, they are the only place where I belong to a "rewards" program... lately they've been trying to get me to sign up to "order online and pick up at the store". They don't seem to realize that if I order something online I'm sure as heck not going to drive 45 miles to pick it up. I can take a hint, they must want me to start shopping someplace else.

^^ Which I never understood because junk food is more expensive than produce. These days, I get nearly all of my sugar intake from apples, bananas, peaches, cherries and grapes.

It depends on the junk food. All the processed stuff is pretty cheap. Mac and cheese, hamburger helper, canned meals, bagged chicken tenders and such. Wife's on a really strict diet do to a health issue. Our food bill is the same $$$ per week for the two of us, as it was when we had 2 teenagers in the house. We're buying 1/2 of what we were back then.

Why not? When you have 0U rack space left, something drastic has to be done

Inflation is part of that. Healthy food can in some cases cost more, some cases less. But keeping your wife healthy is the most important thing.

Went to Lowes yesterday and Craftsman branded stuff was all over the store.

I stopped buying Craftsman tools years ago because going into a Sears was a PITA. Lowes was easier to get too, their tools look to be better quality, and the Lowes store is organized not a disfunctional mess.

One thing I really do miss is the Craftsman tool catalog. Many times you have a problem to solve but don't know how. You could open the catalog and start looking and find what you need. Tis hard to do that on a website.

Later,
Dan

But Google and YouTube have more than made up for that! Watching a video on how to fix things has been invaluable for me.

I think that would apply to many of us. Me, for sure!

The world around us is constantly changing and we will be evolving for ever. Precisely why many businesses come and go.

Coincidently, got home today after a short road trip and overnight hotel stay and had a couple of 'warnings' messages on my BMW dash. A quick google/youtube check and I learned how to reset them. Saved a trip to my local repair shop and probably $300.

That might be the best thing you ever invested in? Saved $300 spent $0

Could be! Way better than my typical 'buy high sell low' practices.

I went to Lowe's this weekend to see what they had for Craftsman stock and if they could replace a 15mm deep socket and 3/8" ratchet wrench. No dice, they do not have individual parts yet and won't break open a set. The guy said they should have them eventually but not sure when. I guess I'll have to call a couple Sears stores to see who still is open and has the parts.
