Started building a boxblade in the fall and had put it away for the winter as I do not have a heated garage to work on it. After reading some forums on here, I got it out and have been using it to move snow. I still need to install scafers on it in the spring and I was just wondering what I should use. I do not want to spend alot of money on this and I am trying to use scraps I have around the farm. I have some scrap steel and was going to try to make my own scafers but was wondering if I could use tines off a triple K that I have lying around. Would they hold up when I do my laneway or would they just snap in half? Here are some pics of the boxblade, I will need to make some modifications to the 3 point hitch in the spring.

I think you are meaning "scarifier". I am going to be building my own box blade this spring, and I am gong to make them out of 2-1/2 x 3/4 bar stock to mimic commercially available ones. not sure if I am going to try to put cutting teeth on, or just cover the "J" portion cutting tooth with hard face welding for abrasion resistance.

Those are designed to "give" I think they are called "S" tines and have spring to them. You could use it but it's very different from the very ridged box blade tines. If you are looking for aggressive deep digging, the S tines will not work that well. S tines break up dirt clogs very well.

Just want to use it to level out the driveway, I will not be using it on a regular bases. Drive way is based sand and gravel with 3/4 clear top.:D

I bought a used box blade a few years ago to do our driveway (800+') as well as neighbors plus family members & I think I have used the scarifiers grading twice. I will cut ALOT more than you think.

Mine is a Woods/Gill blade with the flip over scarifiers, which make it easier to engage the rippers than the standard type, & I still don't really use them very often.

I'd try yours as-is & see if you really need them.

Tried out blade in fall without the scarifiers and it worked ok but I would like to loosen up the high spot in driveway and thought the scarifiers would help.:D

I found out that the high spots on my driveway were there for a reason, large rocks or stumps. (Dad built the road with an axe and a chainsaw. No tractors)

Agrisupply has the best deal on scarifiers when I was shopping for them a while back. Scarifier

I made my own out of leaf springs off a Mack truck, cut them to the desired length with holes in the top to place a pin through, cut them to a point on the bottom. They ain't much but they were free, they serve there purpose and they haven't broke YET.

When I built my box blade I just used some scrap 1/4" diamond plate cut to the shape of the commercially available ones, they have held up well. I did add some angle iron to the end for a more aggressive action in virgin soil.

Well I had some time so I thought I would do a little mod to the boxblade.:D Originally I had just nipped off the corners. :)

But what I found was, when I made an adjustment on the 3rd link, the side would dig into the ground. So I figured I would add a lead in to stop the sides from digging in. ;)

This works so much better now. I can adjust how much snow I leave on the driveway with out worrying about gouging the driveway and digging up stones. :D

When I was at my LS dealer and rummaging around, he had several stacks of scarifier teeth and I had bent a few of mine so I asked how much. $10 each so I bought 3 for spares. I couldnt build one for that price and they all had the replaceable chisel teeth on them
