SC 2400

I did not get the turf tires. Had those on my last Cub and they just didn't give the traction I required in the snow. The tires I got on the SC2450 are not the AG tires, so I suppose they are what you call the R4 tires. This is all new to me, so please bear with me. The tires look like mud tires....should go through the snow real nice.

Has anyone hooked up halogen work lights on their ROPS. I would like to direct some additional light when I start moving snow. I am going to start with the bucket this year as this is the excuse I gave my wife for getting it.

Thanks,
James

I have thought about doing the same thing. I have the lights but I haven't installed them yet. When I get home it's dark so it would be nice to be able to light up the night when I cleaning up the yard. I'm planning on pointing two towards the front and two towards the rear with seperate switches with each switch connected to a relay.

ccyanmar,
you more than likely have the R4/industrial tires. I don't care to much for them as once the ground gets wet down here after it rains, I do quite a bit of spinning if I'm trying to dig up anything. They don't tear up the yard like the ag tires would, but they still leave impressions all over the yard. I'm planning on swapping them out for a set of AG tires to give me some more traction.

Greg....gee I sure hope I don't have traction problems when the white stuff falls from the sky. My last Cub had at least 600 pounds on the back end to get me up my asphalt driveway. That and chains, and I was still spinning...and this was with just a little bit of ice under 8" of snow. I'll have the 4x4 this time around, didn't have that on the 2084.

Guess I'll be doing some experimenting this winter.

Larry's Mower Stands:
I saw these on the site earlier and they looked like a great way to get my deck out of the way. Used them last night and they worked great. He also supplies a little safety chain that is not shown in this picture.

Not having enough weight on the rear might contribute to my problem as I just have a 5ft box blade on the back. I did have my phd on the back, but got tired of the point on the auger catching the ground sometimes when I would go over uneven terrain. That and when I loaded the tractor on my trailer, I would catch the bottom of the auger again on the ground. It isn't as bad with the box blade on, but I still catch the ground a little as the ramp on my trailer isn't tall/long enough. I'm thinking of adding about another 2ft on the tail gate/ramp to give me a better load/unload angle. If I still lived in North Dakota, I'd be thinking about putting quite a bit of weight on the back to help push snow or possibly chains. Although the 4wheel drive helps with the traction.

Did anyone get a stabilizer bar for their 3pt when they got the tractor? I didn't think about until I picked up a used boxblade from my father in-law and the boxblade moved side to side. I thought about cranking the turnbuckles all the way tight and I would assume that would handle the swaying but I haven't tried that yet.

Hey Guys,

Just pulled the trigger on a used SC2400 out of Florida, had it shipped to Ohio and now she's home in the Garage! So excited and love this machine. Got the FEL, Box Scrapper with it. Saved a boat load of money so pulled the trigger on the Blower unit for the inevitable dumping of snow!

Can't wait, my old tractor was a Cub Cadet 149, 74 vintage. It was a strong tractor but electrical and cold the bugger would never start. Also, if I ran out of gas she would be stuck in the back of the property as I just gave up. That being said, we decided to upgrade and upgrade we did. This Tractor is so awesome! Haven't really put it to work since I got home with it Monday night but I do expect to have time to play real soon.

A little concerned about the front blower / FEL switching. Never took the FEL off either and need to before tomorrow night. Any tips, tricks? How are the legs? Stable? Is it hard to disconnect the Hydraulic connectors? Obviously with a used unit there are no manuals. Just don't want to break or bend anything...

Anyhow, long winded hello to fellow SC2400 members. Is this the best place to ask questions? Or are there other forums with more activity?

the loader is a breeze to pull off
first find a level suface of should I say flat as long as the tractor and loader
put the stand on loader down put bucket on ground pull pins on loader bracket use hyd controls to lift loader arms up and off the mount
shut down tractor wiggle hyd contol into all positions for a second then rmove hoses cover with paper towel and rubber bands as the pulgs and cover get torn off in the first week. Drive away

At some point I downloaded a parts list for the sc2400. The manual contains the tractor and engine. It is in pdf format and I would be willing to email it to you if you pm me that you want it. It is form #769-03821 and is dated 08/08. I am not sure how this differs from the service manual.

Welcome aboard TBN and the "Cub Crew"! This is the best palce to ask questions! Where in Ohio are you? Your avatar says Ontario?

I live in Ontario but had the Sc2400 shipped to Ohio from Florida where I bought it off of Craigslist. I picked it up in Ohio and towed her home to Ontario. Mounted the SB45 and used her all winter. Love my hydraulic chute controller. Now, I have it configured for grass cutting.

Loving it! Just installed the mowing deck and getting ready to do my first cut tomorrow. Can't wait!

Well it's been about a yr since I bought my Sc2400 and I thought I would post some of my thoughts.

Looking at my paperwork, I purchased it on 08/29/09, so 21 days from now it will be a yr old. In this time I've put about 35 hours on it, which isn't very much but between working and trying to finish up a degree, I didn't have to much extra time.

I knew what I was getting into when I first bought it so I new it wouldn't be able to handle everything I was wanting to do. Growing up helping my grandfather on a 1000 acre farm in Iowa I was used to the larger tractors. So I was just looking for something to use around the 3 acres I live on. Something I could afford at the time and something that my 2007 Ford Ranger 4x4, could handle pulling. I recently traded my ranger in for a 4x4 F-150 so I don't have any problems towing the tractor anywhere.

When I first got it, people made the comment about how small it is. My brother said it didn't look much bigger than a riding lawnmower. After having seen what it can do, one of those people, my father in-law, has been calling me more and more to come and do some work on his property. He has about 15 acres and a couple of cows and then my brother in-law has a few horses there also. He has an older, mid 80's I think, tractor with no FEL. It reminds me of an older Massey Ferguson but it has a name I can't think of at the moment.

So far the only issues that I have had are:
1. My left front tire has developed a leak. The tires were cracking when I got the machine, so it's possible this is the reason why the tire is leaking. Nothing a tube won't fix.

2. The rubber mat used for the feet has just about come off. At about 25 hours I noticed that the area under the foot pedal had worn through and then I started to notice pieces coming off the mat in other areas. This really isn't a big deal, I'm thinking of getting some herculiner (sp?) and putting on it. I would have thought it would last longer but the tractor has sat outside for the past yr and sometimes I don't get the tarp over it. So I know that the weather has taken it's toll on it.

I've mostly used the tractor for some mowing with an EF115 flail mower. Some fel work - hauling manure, gravel for a kennel, digging small 4 - 6 inch trees out of the ground, other yard work, and some mulching with a bx42 chipper.

If I had the MMM I would probably sell my craftsman 46" rider as the only thing I use that for now is touching up the yard when I don't use the flail.

Some of the things I like about it are:

1. The loader controls mounted on the fender as this leaves your arm in a natural position when using the loader unlike the ones that are up by the dash.

2. The 3 pt control as it has the ability to postion the 3pt in pretty much any height position and it is a very smooth motion.

3. The ability to use the PTO while driving in reverse. This is nice when using the flail mower and backing up into brush/grass.

4. The size of the tractor. It's nice to be able to manuver easily and get into areas that larger tractors wouldn't be able to.

5. The easiness of using the tractor. My wife has never driven a tractor and she has had no problem learning how to use this tractor. While putting mulch out around the trees, she'll jump on the tractor with no problems at all and get to work.

At this time, the only complaints I have are:

1. I would swap the single cylinder for dual cylinders on the loader so that you could have a quick attach setup like the 2305 or even Yanmar's version of the Sc2400. I've been looking at designing something that would work but haven't got that far yet.

2. I would like to see the addition of rear remotes. This probably is an easy add on now that the Sc2450 has come out with the backhoe.

3. I would like to see an override safety seat switch as using the chipper is not feasible according to the manual. So you either have to have someone sitting on the seat, bypass the safety switch, or put something heavy on the seat to trick the safety switch to think you are on the tractor when using the chipper.

4. The filler neck for the gas tank needs to be in a more vertical position as it's pain filling the tractor with 5/6 gallon gas cans. I have found a pretty good solution to this. I picked up a red funnel that has a handle on it along with an extension piece from Advance. I think they are available in numerous places. I put the handle in the loader arm and extend the addtional extension into the gas tank filler. This seems to work well as I don't get diesel all over like I was when I would turn the gas can upside down to get the last of the fuel out.

I feel that these options would add to the usefulness of the tractor.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and I would definitely buy another one if I was in the market for a scut. I'll more than likely keep this machine until I move to a larger property in the next 3-4 yrs. Then I'll probably move up to a 35 hp tractor. Being that my wife is comfortable using the tractor, I might keep it just for her to use. Then she will be able to do some of her honey do lists on her own.
