The head of the plug was cut off before we drilled through it, after drilling we chiseled away the rest and cleaned it up flush to the pan. After that tapped the easy out into the hole and started turning. Came out smooth after all that.

What did you use to cut off the plug?

Maybe, if you figure out how difficult it will be to get that cross bar back in place and if any additional help or tools will be needed.
I have a 3' pipe wrench, mention long ago, that should work. Proper tool for the proper job.
