Rounded off drain plug

I've got a Ford 5000 being delivered in the morning. I'll get a couple pictures when I'm moving things around.

You wouldn't necessarily need to get it hot enough to burn it out. A portable hand propane torch on the plug, not the pan is what you would want to heat in that case, just a little bit to expand it will often be all that it takes..
At this point though that probably isn't what you want to spend time on, about the time that you do get back to work on it. The next time you crawl underneath it should be the time that you get the job done.



A drain pan is a lot lighter weight than a bolt and would absorb the heat faster than the drain plug. Heck, even I can burn a nut off a bolt.

As for the pictures, the tractor ended up being delivered 3 hours late and it was sleeting at the time.

Don't take everything that I post so literally... especially on your thread here, as we all are just joking around while waiting to see how you resolve it. If I was a better mechanic I would pay you a visit... I'm long overdue for a good road trip.
I was threatening to burn the bad fuel out of my nearly new Kubota with my 100,000 BTU torch... and while I wouldn't have done it I was NOT joking when I said it.
We all enjoy pictures, but I don't believe that I have any posted of my tractors, either. I just want to see how similar that Ford is to the one in my family's barn.

My list for Kando's drain plug project.

One vise,one floor jack,two jack stands,one package of JB Weld,one oxy/acetylene cutting torch,one small pipe wrench,one large pipe wrench,one long cheater pipe,one box end wrench,one Lincoln HD140 and and a spool of Innerdhield NR 211MP. Have I overlooked anything? Oh wait,gotta have a six pack for this "hold my beer project"and smart phone to document for U-Tube. :blacksmith::tractor:

Hacksaw to remove that crossmember; angle grinder to square the nut back up; small propane torch to gently heat the oil pan and expand it; welder and iron stock to replace the crossmember with something which is removable. And of course the liquid refreshment mentioned above.

Not sure how much torque they'd take, but how much torque would be needed for this plug once you got a good grip?

I see an absolute zero chance of that tool working for Kando.

Again, I'm not really sure he needs cheater bar type torque. I think he just needs to get a grip.

A small pipe wrench held flush with the bottom of the case should grip the threaded part enough to get it out. It looks like a standard barrel vent plug would fit, one that has the square hole for a flex handle is what should have been in there to begin with.

I think the OPs pipe wrench is junk. A pipe wrench with sharp teeth would get that out.

Heck that oil looks pretty good...why mess with the plug until you need to?

Draino claims they can remove most any kind of plug.
