Rounded off drain plug

I'm lazier than that, I'd just plaz or drill a hole in a stick of .25 x 1.25 flat stock, put it over the rounded plug and weld it so there was at least 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn. Once it's loosened, skinny wheel the excess bar off and turn it out with a big crescent or 1.25" open end.

If you read the OP's original posts you will see that he isn't proficient with a welder and/or torches. Hence the thread of 524 posts and climbing.

Do the pumps through the dipstick manage to get all of the oil out? To me, putting new fluids in an engine or transmission which still has old oil in it makes as much sense as saving your bath water for the next time that you get dirty.

I'm no mechanic but a good filter is supposed to take care of solids. I know on my F350 there's about a quart in the HPOP that rarely gets changed.
It's more like leaving a quart of FILTERED water from your bath in the tub.
From reading on bobistheoilguy UOA's shows little difference in either method.

Plus it's got a major access problem. As far as I can tell he never removed the bar in the picture.

Yes, square head.

Here's the current state of the plug. That bar should be removable, bolt on each end. The loader mounts to the frame on the front under the engine and to axle on the rear, just a support bar I suppose. Johnkn, I've tried those extractors as well, although the one I tried was the one that fit in it's current state. Once I remove the bar I'll look into using the next size down, 1/2". Bolt head would normally be 9/16"

Well it is obvious that you (and many others) didn't read the first post.

There is no pan on the transmission.

That cannot be true, everyone has been talking a drain pan. Kando must be confused. Just like the pallet thread, a drain pan where none exists just adds to the intrigue.

I've got a Ford 5000 being delivered in the morning. I'll get a couple pictures when I'm moving things around.

So you bought a new drainplug......and it came with a tractor attached??

Yup, even has a vise welded onto the plug to prevent the same issue in the future. Quite a deal!

So, are you going to give up on the drain plug on the 960 and as far as the oil goes, just suck it up? If you use good filters there should be no problem.

Sucking oil out the dipstick and changing the filter is a perfectly good method of changing oil. I actually wish the dipstick tube led to the absolute bottom of the drain pan on all engines so this would be the norm. I have a Toyota engine with the oil filter up at the top (stock picture attached). Black oil filter in the lower right corner just left of the battery. That way I could change the oil and filter from above and only get under the vehicle as needed.

 You might not be much of a plugger but you certainly are a good sport Kando.

No filters on these old Fords.

I cannot believe I read most of this nonsense.

It is astounding that someone would ask for help and not get it done, yet still visits the thread looking for some kind of magic solution. Good job Kando!! The laugh is on all of us!.

Please do not tell us if you ever get the drain plug out. I think this could reach 1000 posts if you work it right. And with winter coming and most of us getting cabin fever, it will not take long.

Yup, it's going to 1000 posts and this could wind up being the feeder thread for all stuck pan plugs. Guys in the oil change places will yell "Hey Boss, I got me a Kando here" when the pan plug won't come out. The guy that tightens oil filters at the Kubota factory would be called over to give the filters an extra "Kando" for good luck. There's even talk of naming the new building on the TBN campus "The Kando Wing". :D

I would not screw with it...pun intended.

I never drained the oil on my 1999 Mercedes. Used a vacuum pump and sucked it out of the dip stick tube.

KISS

This is what I use for sucking out of the dip stick tube.

You may enjoy the pallet thread. All 3095 posts (as of today).

Kando meant no harm. He had an honest question and figured out there was an easier method. Plus this way he did not have to climb under his tractor. Smart man.

No one asked you to read it, I'm hardly looking for a magic solution, and we're all laughing with each other.

I don't see me needing to work anything to bring this to 1000 posts, it's gone fairly far with minimal input of my own.
