Rounded off drain plug

I'm lazier than that, I'd just plaz or drill a hole in a stick of .25 x 1.25 flat stock, put it over the rounded plug and weld it so there was at least 1/4 to 1/3 of a turn. Once it's loosened, skinny wheel the excess bar off and turn it out with a big crescent or 1.25" open end.

Do the pumps through the dipstick manage to get all of the oil out? To me, putting new fluids in an engine or transmission which still has old oil in it makes as much sense as saving your bath water for the next time that you get dirty.

I'm no mechanic but a good filter is supposed to take care of solids. I know on my F350 there's about a quart in the HPOP that rarely gets changed.
It's more like leaving a quart of FILTERED water from your bath in the tub.
From reading on bobistheoilguy UOA's shows little difference in either method.

Plus it's got a major access problem. As far as I can tell he never removed the bar in the picture.

Yes, square head.

Here's the current state of the plug. That bar should be removable, bolt on each end. The loader mounts to the frame on the front under the engine and to axle on the rear, just a support bar I suppose. Johnkn, I've tried those extractors as well, although the one I tried was the one that fit in it's current state. Once I remove the bar I'll look into using the next size down, 1/2". Bolt head would normally be 9/16"

Well it is obvious that you (and many others) didn't read the first post.

There is no pan on the transmission.

That cannot be true, everyone has been talking a drain pan. Kando must be confused. Just like the pallet thread, a drain pan where none exists just adds to the intrigue.

I've got a Ford 5000 being delivered in the morning. I'll get a couple pictures when I'm moving things around.

So you bought a new drainplug......and it came with a tractor attached??

Yup, even has a vise welded onto the plug to prevent the same issue in the future. Quite a deal!

So, are you going to give up on the drain plug on the 960 and as far as the oil goes, just suck it up? If you use good filters there should be no problem.

Sucking oil out the dipstick and changing the filter is a perfectly good method of changing oil. I actually wish the dipstick tube led to the absolute bottom of the drain pan on all engines so this would be the norm. I have a Toyota engine with the oil filter up at the top (stock picture attached). Black oil filter in the lower right corner just left of the battery. That way I could change the oil and filter from above and only get under the vehicle as needed.
