Well, I slid down a hill sideways and rolled my 425. I bought new side panels, radiator (used from ebay) new spindle bearing assembly. Everything is back together and running but I need a hood. They are on ebay at about $360 for new ones. Looking for a good used hood from a 425, 445 or 455. Any help would be appreciated. If this is the wrong place for this thread, please advise.

Yes, good to hear you weren't injured and the tractor survived with only minor damages. From your avatar picture, it looks like you have a ROPS installed on the 425. Was that on when the rollover happened?

2210 is in the picture.

Glad you were not hurt. Considering fatigue on older plastic parts you may be just as well off getting a new hood if the rest of the mower is in good shape.

Used hoods aren't so common, and not so cheap either. I can't imagine how steep that hill must have been. I know I'd fall of the seat well before my 425 AWS would come off the ground. The AWS does use smaller tires and that makes it sit pretty low. I also have wheel spacers for chains that make it almost as wide as it is long. I'm for sure going to get the spaces on my next one too. Glad you weren't hurt.

I also have wheel spacers but the problem was my tires were loaded with dirt/mud and I was trying to cut close to a tree just above the drainage ditch / creek in my yard. The ground was a little wet from rain the previous day. Best time for me to cut as there is little or no dust. Anyway the tractor started sliding into the creek. All I could do was hit the pto switch and the next thing I know I am on my back in the mostly dry, rocky ditch. Mower stopped just above me. I reckon it weighs about 1000 pounds. so I am happy it didn't roll another 1/4 turn. Unfortunately i hurt my lower back. The accident happened on July 3rd, we were leaving on July 4th for vacation to Florida in our motorhome. That didn't happen as I was laid up on my back for about 5-6 weeks. Back is still in bad shape. Worse than that because of inactivity I ended up in the hospital with acute congestive heart failure. Until all this I was the 65 year old iron man - now I am wearing a defibrillator.

I didnt exactly roll my 318 but I came close to it. I was driving it down off the back of my Dodge on two steel ramps and one ramp slid out from underneath and it hit the ground on the front right tire hard and rolled over onto its side. I was able to jump off as it was falling over. Needless to say, I took the ramps to the scrap yard and bought a trailer with a rear gate that doubles as a ramp.

I had a similar event happen.
You don't need to buy but one $600 set of busted hoods for a mower to decide a trailer to haul them on is a good investment.
However you load your mower make sure the ramp is secured so that it's safe EVEN if the truck or trailer moves forward for some reason.

I purchased a ramp kit where you supply the 2X6's. I never took it out of the box and after reading this, I probably wont. My trailer is a tilt trailer so I just tilt the trailer down and push the mower up the back and it flips up straight. The first time I ever did this was when I picked up at the shop. I was going to ride it up the trailer, but the owner said no. Him and another guy pushed it up. I asked him why he did not ride it up and he looked at me and said. "Many years experience, and that all you need to know" I have never rode it up the trailer!

While moving dirt with the M/F 2310 I was backing up with the bucket full and at about 3/4 max height when I turned to the right and the left rear wheel went into a hollow and it tipped to the left and I slid off the seat**** and it sat that way. Half stunned all I could do was to lower bucket and the tractor lowered back onto the ground. I knew the bucket was too high but backed up anyway.

Always wear your seatbelt. Even a 2310 can kill you.

did you find a hood? I found a good JD mower parts guy: Roger- 219-942-2242. I think he was hesitant to ship hoods because they are brittle, break easy and expensive to ship. You could still ask.

I always strap my wraps with motorcycle tie down straps. Don't like the steep pitch for loading a mower up ramps into a PU truck. DOn't mind driving my quad up that incline, but not mower. wheels spin, high center, etc...

I frequently load my x540 in the bed of my truck. I purchased arched aluminum ramps so that the mow deck would not drag as it crossed the tailgate. To prevent my ramps from falling off the tailgate, I use ratchet straps attached to the upper part of the ramps and the lower lip of the bumper. Once the straps are attached the mower can't pull the ramps off the tailgate. Has worked well for several years.
