Hey folks! So I picked up this tractor at an auction online and would love to hear what you guys think I will be in for get her back in shape.

I've no idea the year, or S/N, cuz there's just a shiny black outline where the ID plate should be. Checked under the seat, and the engine under the crank, no help. The radiator has a manufacturing date, but I swear that looks like it says 8/31/10. Then it's be a replacement radiator, right?

Then found that info plate on the engine air cleaner that shows "0300" from Kawasaki as a manufacturing date. Any idea how to interpret that one? Possibly, March of 2000? Could I be that lucky? Then no plastic cam maybe??
I'll start by telling ya what I know, and have done already... Shows @1092 hours, so she's far from now...

The fella that had it was moving to the beach and didn't need it any more, so it sold with the rest of the stuff from the home. Have the remnants of the original side panels w/screens, and a complete/undamaged hood.

Starts quick with a lil choke, runs clean and well. All fluids were good when picked up, just don't know when/what has been serviced or not... All hydro's appear to work fine; deck lift, steering, drive/reverse, and all was well until I snapped the dang left side spindle/tie rod bar just getting it off the trailer. Didn't even hit it hard! Looked like a poor weld. My buddy already rewelded it and she's all back together now.

First thing that stuck out to me was how wet that left hand valve cover was... I thought maybe some oil got spilled on it from the filler tube above? Do these Kawasaki engines tend to leak on that side?

No idea about that plastic cam... Maybe she's new enough that I got lucky and it's steel?

Have moved it maybe a total of 100 feet, and not engaged the deck, but auctioneer said they had mowed with it...

Gotta get a shopping list together of everything from fluids, oil, grease, filters, etc. Any preferences on what you all use? Already found the panels on scamazon and Flip manufacturing, but what else should I be looking for? I'm thinking bagger, and maybe some chains and a blade?

And where do you even start looking in NC for wheel or suitcase weights and add on goodies like that bagger, blade or FEL?

Anxious to hear what you folks with all the experience can offer about what my next steps should be.

Thanks for all the info you guys post here!

Here's that cracked spindle, the radiator, the engine tag from under the crank, and the date coded air cleaner housing with Kawasaki info.

I have a1996 425 with 600 hrs, very good machine. It has a 54 in mower deck. I sold myother 425 which had lots of hours and I had to replace the oil pump drive gear and it was made of fiber

That breaking point on the spindle is one reason those that run loaders on 420/430's put custom heavy duty front spindles with trailer bearing/hub assemblies with new front rims on these tractors.

Sorry I cant help with your dilema at all, but its a pet peeve of mine that manfactures went to stickers for something as important as the serial number. I can tell you how many small equipment stuff like compact tractors and mowers have had that sticker power washed off.

What happened to good old fashion stamping the numbers in the metal?
