Ripper teeth

Need to change a ripper tooth. They are dimpled on. Parts house guy said use a torch. When the dimpled area is red hot pry the old tooth off.
The slip the new tooth on, get it red hot and use a punch to dimple it on both sides.

Anybody have some sage wisdom to add to that?

Scooter, that is right, but since you have the torch, cut the old dimples out and knock off with a hammer.
New points heated at the dimples is great, but you can punch the dimples with punch cold too.

I don't have a torch. I have access to one. But initially I thought maybe just drill out the dimple with an oversized bit to remove the old tooth.

Saw a youtube vid where these points were changed. I think he used a cutoff wheel to remove them. Then he used a press to dimple the new ones on.

I have cut the teeth off with a angle grinder and cut off wheel. you might be able to drill the dimple out. As stated already a torch works too. Let us know what you do!

I went the drill route for removal. The dimple was smaller than the bit I used on purpose.
Once I drilled most of each side out I simply held the sock with the tooth hanging down and pinged it with a hammer a few times and it popped of. Then I used a 3/8 punch and hammer - but used a press on the other side after carefully marking the dimples on the tooth. It went okay. I would do it again, in fact I bought extras.

I think the punch divot is to sharp and to deep. But it is good enough for home owners use, especially since you don't have a torch. Good going!

We used a 5 lb hammer on one side and a ball peen hammer
on the other

Agreed. On the other side we used a press with the same punch and got a better looking dimple.
