Using liquid ballast in tractor tires.

In an ideal world the tires will be dry tubeless radials . With external cast weight bolted on for ballast . Contrary to what most folks think . There is lots of room for cast ballast on the inside and outside of the tire .

My owners manual states that you cannot use more than 2 55 pound weight per tire. And my loader requires 2300# of ballast. And if you have a backhoe that is only 1300# so were do you get the other 900#

For a front loader the further behind the rear wheels ballast is the more effective it is vs wheel ballast. Calculated it for two tractors and it is 30 to 40% more effective. 1300 pounds sounds light for backhoe with a FEL needing 2300 pounds ballast.

grsthegreat - if you have the standard - 13.6 x 24 tires. 38 gallons per tire - roughly 417# per tire.

Just get a qualified employee to operate the tractor.

Id probably try to curl up something up with the backhoe dipper stick and bucket for more counterweight, then use a ratchet strap to temporarily secure it.

I can’t help but think liquid ballast works better than nothing, but the downsides of using it, as described above, are not a long term, reliable or practical method.

Multiple manufactures quietly recommended only 40% liquid fill. They do this at a low level because they know their dealers are still filling at the 75% old standard.

For someone with 350 pounds liquid per tire this takes it down to 190 pounds.

So what do they do with the tubeless Calcium Chloride fills. Supposedly it doesn't corrode the rims if the rims are completely submerged and can't interact with the air.

Supposedly is a real big word,
I have seen a few of the rims which were run tubeless and filled over the top of the rim,
it still corroded quite badly

when you do a 90% fill your ride quality is dismal and if large enough rocks are hit with sufficient force you can actually split a tire open.
