How effective would it be to change a gas engine in a garden tractor to a diesel engine. Is it hard to find compatible engines? Is it worth it? How about number of cylinders in an engine, how much difference does it make? Im guessing more power. Is a two cylinder gas engine better than a one cylinder diesel. I realize some of these questions depend entirely on circumstances but I'm just trying to get an idea from people who have experience with this stuff.

Thanks a lot

Alot of things to think about. Charging system, hooking it up to the transmission, adding a lift pump maybe, would the transmission take the extra torque etc. If it was in a machine that both a diesel and gas engine was offered, it would be easier. I'm sure it could be done, but I would guess it wouldn't be practial without a lot of fabrication.
