Red Torin 20 ton shop press mod

I saw a neat modification to a press. A 1/4" cable down each side with a small winch ( like they have on boat trailers ) to move the table up and down. Sure looked easier than manually lifting to pin it in place.

It's really not that heavy; I lifted the table last night one side at a time. But will consider it. As promised The pics from the straightened plate using the press.

Another small mod today.

Trying to keep heavy objects from falling on my feet once the platform with casters is built.

Just drilled the pins and put in 3/16 hitch pins.

Here is another I was thinking about mounting the handle somewhere then it came to me. Cut it and pin it in place where it can't be misplaced!

Here is what I did with my press
Replaced the hand pump with an OTC air/hyd pump
Made a table lift
Made a carrage to mount the hyd cyl on so I can move from left to right
Made new plates for the table, the cast ones that came with it exploded!! Lucky i did not get hurt .
Next project to make a safety cage for the front of the press.

Did you fabricate the lift or buy it?

Do you find it necessary for a press this size?

You really don't appreciate such a small mod until you use the press a little.

Having to search for the bar to tighten and loosen the valve gets long in a hurry!

Next should be the platform

I built the lift from scratch. It works real nice, very little effort to lift the table and the ratchet mechanism holds it I place when you move the pins.
I have a 3 ton arbor press for light work and the 10 ton is good for anything else I do.

As for your question if you need a lift for a small press. Yes, that way I don't have to remove everything from the table when I need to change the hight of the table.
Do I need it no, but I I love to design and build things .

I wasn't judging as I also like to build/modify/design things. Great job on the lift design and build!

I have some garage door cable pulleys that I could use with your design.

Got a bit more work done on the shop press. Built a stand out of 1-1/2x3"x3/16 rectangular tubing. Used 2 4" casters fixed/no brake and tapped the 1/4" plate on the legs to accept 5/16-18 thread rubber feet. This will allow me to easily move the air/hydraulic press while adjusting for any uneven surfaces.

I am not a professional welder and am still figuring out my MM252; should have probably cleaned the rusty steel before welding-not after.

Next step paint black

Yup I was thinking more along the lines of getting it out of the way when not needed.
