Since it returns partials, you would have to do two searches for a state location, since the state is a user-entered field and half use NY, for example, while half use New York. And the partial means if the city name has "ny" in it, that will return as well with "ny" as the search term.

We'll see what we can do to return "ny" as an only work in a search ... but it probably won't get attention today. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Well, I'm sure we'll come up with something eventually. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Another thing I forgot to mention is the problemw ith quotes in profile fields has been fixed, so if you enter, for example, <font color=purple>60" mid-mower</font color=purple> in your attachments field, it will be there next time you check, rather than just <font color=purple>60</font color=purple> as in the past.

Muhammad - Why isn't the attachments field sized like the bio field, so that it's as big as its size limitation allows?

Changed. Along with hobbies.

Muhammad,

I really do like the new setup. I find the vlink of the grey doesn't make the forum names jump out like they use too. This is obviously my opinion, I just wanted to share.

I LOVE this site and continue to support that linux /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Muhammad - Thanks! I noticed, though, that it doesn't say how many characters it's limited to, like the Hobbies and Bio fields do. Unfortunately, I assumed that meant you could fill up the box, so I expanded what was there and added the implements I didn't have space to list before, then submitted it all, and it all got chopped off again. I guess it's limited to 200 characters? Would this be hard to expand to 300 or 400?

Back to the question of showing the message number that I mentioned earlier: How hard would it be to have the link to the message being replied to bring up only that message in a new window, instead of the whole thread in Threaded Mode. When I use that link, I inevitably just want to see the specific message that was being responded to, not the whole thread. Does that make any sense?

Yes, it makes sense ... but it will take a little more time to do it "right" ... with a javascript popup with limited graphical content ... just the message, really, so you wouldn't have to wait so long for the header, and all that stuff. But, we'll need to make a new script for that, and then add the javascript, etc. I'd rather do it right when we have the chance than just add message numbers ... since when we went with message numbers, it wasn't any easier to follow than it is now.

Muhammad - Once again, thanks!

One more question for tonight, then I'll shut up (temporarily). /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

With the new review mechanism, is it possible to update a review once you've got more hours/experience with something? Or do you have to post an entirely new review?

Muhammad
I like it. I do have two questions though. Would it be possible to add a login window on the home page? This would save two steps when logging in. Also, do you have plans to add the read post feature?

Thanks here too,Muhammad, especially for the new background color ! Makes print easier to read....OLD AGE !!!!! dass

What's that? /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

As for the home page login ... it was causing some problems with some of the new code, so we removed it... we'll probably look at adding it again at some point, though.

We'll be adding an "add an update to this review" feature, in time.

Muhammad,

Initially I was lost, but now that I wandered around I found the forum to be even better than before...

The one thing that I really would like to see is the "Polling" function. Lots of times we users would like to get mass opinions on simple yes - no questions...

For example:

Are you an NRA Member? Yes __ No __

If it doesn't suck up too much server space, I think it would be a great addition.

Muhammad, new site looks great.
One minor issue which may be related to my rather obscure web browsers - in searching user profiles, partial matches are not returned. What I type is what is searched for. For example, searching for Quebec returns no results. Searching for Quebec, Canada returns 1 result (me). I'm using Konqueror on Mandrake 8.1. (the same thing happens with Galeon and Mozilla). Do not rule out the possibility that I am doing something dumb.

No, we're still tweaking how the search works, so it's not a problem on your end. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif For a partial match, put your terms indide asterisks ... for Quebec, enter <font color=blue>*quebec*</font color=blue> ... but remember that this will probably change in the coming days.

Muhammad -- On the user list, would it be possible to use letters instead of numbers...so if I was looking for Harv (not picking on you, old buddy, just an example) I could click on H instead of trying to guess which number he fell under..?

The user list is ordered alphabetically by default ... but some users decided to use numbers so they show up at the top. Best way is to search since harv would probably be a few dozen pages in on the normal view.

Muhammad

What's that?

I might have called it the wrong thing. What ever you would call a button or right click or something that would take away the (new) and make it look as though you've already read a topic or post without having to open it. When this was discussed earlier I thought something like that was a go. Maybe I just read in something that wasn't there.
