Really got in a bind (literally)

Try jacking up one rear wheel to release the tension. This works on 4x4s when I've accidentally left difflock in on the road.

I did take off everything but shaft from PTO was locked up tight. I can not get PTO into neutral. I may have to take truck over to try to pull tiller backwards.....

Thinking the same as the others. Maybe take the side cover off the tiller and look in there and see if the chain or gear has bound everything up. Sometimes can use a 2x4 in put it in the tines and rock them a bit to see if you can get a wee bit of movement so you can move release the PTO shaft.

Part of the problem is: on these the PTO is a direct mechanical connection to the rear tires while the PTO lever is in gear. So as you suggested the tractor has to roll backward a little to unload the PTO tension. Your idea or the 2x4 in the tines, while someone tugs on the PTO shift lever, are likely the most practical next step.

And the PTO lever is indeed still in gear.......Sounds like I need to round up an extra set of hands!

I apologize to some that I answered for not "including the quote". Makes it a bit more difficult for folks to sort through!! It will be a few days before I can get my truck over there, but hopefully I can get tiller free from the tractor and go from there. I do appreciate all the good feedback.

I see you have a 9n as well as this yanmar. Something were always interested in and a tractor that California compares our small yanmars too is the N series. They have the advantage of the weight for pulling ground engaging equipment but give us a comparison of the 2 what you like and where the N shines and where the YM shines.
