New box including breakers may need to be brought to current code

My new box is all GFCIs and Arc Faults. The only issue I had was the new fridge circuit was tripping the GFCI, but the electrician came back and swapped that out for a regular breaker and it has been good. The fridge itself is a pain, ices over the fan for the icemaker if we use it, so it has been disabled from the front panel, but the breaker has been fine since.

Overall very happy since I got a subpanel in the garage out of the deal.

I actually think I like the bars in the middle better, that way if you run out of knockouts on top you can use the ones on the sides without running into bars.

When We replaced the sub panel in shop , Inspector could not / would not inspect any circuits beyond the box itself . Simply inspected box , connections and ground including the 2 new ground rods and continuous wire to those rods . Those were His words , not anything I knew .

I like reading these posts because it really brings to light how although there may be a national " Standard " when it comes to electrical work , every state views it in the own eyes . Heck , Here in Oregon , Inspectors from one county sometimes disagree with their counterpart from a neighboring county , Go Figure :confused3:

I wasn't going to get the ground bar inspected, I was just going to add it. I didn't talk to the inspector until after I decided to install a new box since I have to have the meter pulled to do that. He told me that since all the original wires are all in the wall, he couldn't inspect them anyhow, so he just wants to see the mains and the ground. That was he he needed.

Looking at the new box next to the current one, it doesn't look like my mains will reach even if I stick more of the main coming in at the bottom. The main ground is my concern now. I may have to step down to a 30 circuit, 60 space box since they are about 5" shorter. If I hand the box upside down, the neutrals will not reach to the bottom of the box where the neutral bus is located. I'm scheduled to have the meter pulled this coming Friday so I want to be prepared.

On mine, the mains and all the circuits come in from the top. The subpanel is bottom fed, though...

Right and I doubt I am going to get any leeway from that wire. I also want to do a neat job and don't want the wire to just make it.

So if you ran the panel right way up, slid the box as high as you could go with the amount of mains length you have, your bars would be at the top and all your circuits you have now would be at about the same level...so what would not reach where doing it that way? Would the box itself just be at a level you are not comfortable with?

I don't think the mains are going to reach by the time they go up the side of the box. Here is a pic of the current box. The main ground on the right is going to be an issue reaching to the new box in the center.
