Quick question!! JD1145

How do I disconnect the PTO on a JD1145 front mower?!?

I've removed the two large steel insets on on the hydrolic lift and I'm trying to pull off the mower..it slides out a few inches but then it seems to stop. I'm not sure if I need to manuall disconnect the shaft somehow. There's a black plastic casing around the nuckle and shaft and some little white plastic du-dads on both sides of the plastic casing. Do I need to undo something to slide the shaft out or does it just slide out if I pull?

The shaft should have some method of locking into place inside the collar. Perhaps something that looks like the spring loaded detents that you see on vacuum cleaner hoses? The deck on my 445 uses a method similar to this to keep the shaft locked in place.

Yea, it should be a similar type of attachment as other
mower deck shafts, there should be a locking mechanism
where the shaft connects to the tractor PTO shaft. I believe that is a sliding collar, that you would slide towards the deck end of the drive shaft, which should release the shaft and let it then pull off the PTO. Some shafts have a twist lock, but I don't believe that is what is on there.
Yes, if it's been a while, you may have a tough time getting that to work properly. Try spraying with some spray lube, all around that sliding mechanism, seeing if you can get some inside where the balls are, and maybe a little persuasion with a small hammer,, to loosen some of the parts might help. But, it should slide right off when you unlock the collar.
