Push ring PTO coupling

When you say hold the ring back. The only movement at the ring from its normal position was towards the tractor. Do I push the ring forward towards the tractor then push the pto assembly onto the tractor spline cheers John N
No, you pull the ring back towards the driveshaft and at the same time pushing the whole drive shaft towards the tractor and on the the PTO stub shaft. That is what makes things a little difficult. Pulling the ring back in one direction while pushing the drive shaft in the opposite direction.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned when you 'pull' the ring back is to use both hands... (after lubing both the PTO shaft & the coupling with a lanolin lubricant) I cradle the coupling in the palm of my hands, then 'pinch' the ring back between thumb a fingers...

Once I've got it sliding onto the shaft, I can release the ring either before or after I've advanced it regarding the PTO groove. You can hear & feel it lock into the groove.

I was afraid of that, since I've read the ring style is the most used now. I just ordered my BB720X today.
I read on this forum, that the ring type is now mandated for all new drive lines, they are safer!!! lol

NOTHING is "safe" from an IDIOT!! Why not let the gene pool get cleaned up?? lol

Spend 30 minutes cussing at the thing......

That is just considered foreplay. It all comes down to the right technique. Most of the exposed items that need lube to outlast the elements I use marine grade waterproof grease.

The only one I have with a "PULL" ring is an extension I use when I hook my brush mower to the quick hitch. The mower shaft was already cut too short for using a quick hitch. I have to remember to install the extension before I back up to the mower or it's a fight.

My finish mower shaft had a small diameter button so I tack welded a flat washer on it. Made a world of difference.

It's definitely not a grease issue, the safety cowling on the implement is such that you can only fit one hand into it. Totally fine for push pin PTO coupler but when you need two hands to pull the ring back it's physically impossible.

Hey, I agree that some of these "safety" cowlings and guards are so confining that there is no way you can get your hands in. They must think it is safer if the operator can't get it hooked up to begin with.

Now you're onto something.

Someone on the forum said they drilled a hole in quick connect so they could put a pin in it to hold the ring back. Install the yoke on the splines and pull the pin out and the ring snaps into place. Pretty clever I thought but can’t find the posting. Was considering doing it because my mid mount mower has one of these and you can’t get two hands on the coupling so doing it with one hand is really tricky

I don稚 know about you all ... I致e got 5 machines with this type of pto hook up. No problem with any .. I keep the drive shaft it self greased ( lubed) for easy movement along with all grease fittings. I pull back the ring .. mine all lock back. Install on pto shaft push and click ! That痴 it. No BS like you people are talking. I personally like them .. but the other type is fine also ... just my 0.02 cents.
