Pulling attachments with BX series...

Hi, I am planning purchase of either a BX1500 or a BX2200. It is a replacement for a JD318. On my JD, I often tow a small trailer or various equipment behind it (aerator, sprayer, dethacher, etc.) I need to do the same with the BX. How do you guys accomplish this? It seems to me that the 3-point-hitch gets in the way of these attachments.

The BX has a fixed drawbar for towing attachments. You can also use a cross drawbar that fits between the arms of the 3PH. (see picture) The problem with the cross drawbar is that the 3PH on the BX does not have down pressure. You have to have moderate tongue weight for it to work properly.

If'n I ain't mistaken the 1500, 1800 and 2200 all will have a drawbar for towing. The B7500 has one and it slides out several inches. On the trailer you're using now it may need a longer tongue but the tractor will tow whatever you could with the JD.

Yes, the BX has a drawbar. You can see it on the picture that I posted in the above post. I keep a clevis on my fixed drawbar so that I can hook a chain to it.

Are you saying the BX family of tractors comes with a drawbar as a standard item? Im curious because I have a new BX 22 being delivered Saturday morning and was wondering if I was going to have to buy a bar to pull the yard trailer as a extra item.

I am using my 2200 to tow a small tractor and the three point hitch does not get in the way if you keep the arms locked up. If you are mowing and towing I could see where there would be a slight problem. You might consider bolting on an extension to the current mount. Unless you have a lot of tongue weight it should work fine.
As far as pulling power, my 2200 has not met a stump it could rip out by the roots!

I got the cross drawbar from the dealer. I think he sells them for about $30. I worked with a metal fab shop to design and build the "A frame" to prevent the cross drawbar from rotating on the 3PH. I plan to have some made up and try to sell them on Ebay. Just haven't had time to get things started.

Attached is another picture where you can see the BX drawbar a little better (and also the cross drawbar and A frame). You can see that I have a clevis attached to my BX drawbar.

I tow a small trailer with a ball mounted in the frame in the rear (the standard spot), I leave the 3PH all the way up. No problems at all with the arms.

By using implements designed to be used with a 3-point. Most of the trail behind equipment like from Home Depot is to light duty for use with a BX.
There is a hitch point/drawbar on the BX which can mount a ball or use a clevis. You can also use the three point mounted drawbar b ut if you intend on using a ball you will need to rig a brace to the top link to stabilize it as well. Why not just use 3-poit equipment? J

If you move up to 3pt attachtments you'll get better results.

I have a trailer i pull with my BX and the drawbar is too close to the ground, so i came up with this solution. I have a hitch that plugs into the 2 in. receiver that has a ball and a hole for a clevis or a pin.
