PTO Shafts

Bought a Woods RD660-1 mower with a non covered PTO shaft. I'd like to remedy that situation. Can I buy the cover itself or is it best to just buy a new shaft assembly?

I would first check with your mower dealership. Do they have such a beast? Then try after market sites such as - Messicks. Give them a call - see what they can come up with.

If you revise your opening post to include mower brand and, if possible, PTO shaft brand, you will receive more useful responses. Your opening posts are consistently vague.


Tractor Supply Company inventories quite a few PTO shafts and some parts.

Problem will be finding the guard which fits your particular PTO drive shaft.

Most of the covers ride in machined grooves at the ends near the yokes. Does your shaft have those?

I have a Bondioli & Pavesi Series 100, size 4 PTO shaft which came with used flail mower and the cover or shield was busted pretty bad and after having spent quite bit of time in trying to figure out the correct replacement shield, I bought all new (up to 35 hp) shaft from Amazon vendor (All States Ag Parts) for $175


Oh well, I now have used spare parts for my other PTO shafts hoping they will fit if I ever need them?


The new shaft is a no-name brand and appears to be of equal quality to OEM, but only time will tell.

Yes if one is looking for cheap there is always one out there. I saw some around hundred buck or so no problem.
It would have been even cheaper just not do anything but use the Bondioli & Pavesi PTO shaft I still have!

I was looking for replacement & best value for my money - note the 35hp rating.

A farmer might, or might not, have a pto shield kicking around they might sell you.

I say "might not", only because I make my own pto shafts up because it is so much cheaper, but I do not buy the shielding for them when I build them, so i don't have any for you.

My mistake. It's a Woods RM660-1 Finish mower. The shaft just has a made in Italy marker but that's about all I can see so far.

Actually I bought one from Agri-Supply to refit my JD Haybine. I bent the original.. Works fine and cost less than 100 bucks, shipped.

I found that it is a Eurocardan shaft. See attached photos.

They do but good luck finding where to buy them. I’d love to. I have found one or two specific items on eBay but overall they only go through dealers and those are not always convenient to me.
