Hi I just traded my MF GC2300 in on a L3490. I have a fertilizer spreader for spreading salt in the chicken houses and lawn fertilizer, I had to have the PTO shaft cut down to fit the MF now when I hooked up with the Kubota I have about 4-5" before the shaft seperates when the spreader is sitiing level. And it seperates when I place it on the ground. Will this shaft be safe to use or should I get a longer PTO shaft? Just want to be safe.
Thanks

Possibly consider a slip clutch like this one

SLIP CLUTCH W/1-3/8X6 MALE X 1-3/8X6 - Agri Supply

I just had to shorten mine due to the clutch I just bought.Sounds like the adapter is the cheapest way to go, but if you were to spend more for a new shaft, you might as well spend the 82 dollars and get the benefit of the clutch also

Slip clutch is a waste of money on a spreader. Probably not enough room for one anyway. But one of those 4" extensions is a good idea - I should have thought of that. Especially since I've actually got one on my KM454. I bought it to compensate for the extra 4" separation added by the PEC hitches.

I'd go with an extension. I wouldn't worry about the short overlap when running (it's only a spreader), but it beats the heck out of trying to remember to never drop the spreader with the pto running. Whack whack whack whack whack whack whack....
