i'm trying to figure out what my options are concerning watering some of my fields. i have a dug well, and 2 springs (both springs have catch basins dating back to the 1700s, and are ideally suited for drawing water).

is there a pump that runs off a PTO to draw water? i imagine i could fabricate something, but i really don't want to reinvent the wheel.

gas powered pumps are not really an ideal option..

If you look at northern tools, they have them. I just picked one up off of ebay, but haven't used it yet.

researching how these work right now - any advice on using these?

i don't need to high pressure, just enough water output to feed drip/soak irrigation lines.

thanks again!

talked with my dealer and found a PTO-driven pump system made by kifco (http://www.kifco.com/kcpump.html)

seems like the right equipment for the job.

anyone ever use something like this?

How much pressure and gpm do you need?

I run a 4" inlet by 3" outlet Berkeley pto pump. 90 psi at the pump will water a 300 foot circle with 60 psi at the gun. I pull it with a 40 hp tractor and it's not a strain.

I bought one from Northern Tool several years ago that I ran with a 43 HP tractor. It worked real good but you had better have a good supply of water. Mine put out quite a bit of pressure also. I think it was 2 or 3 hundred psi but I am not positive. Don't have the specs on it anymore. It was not real expensive. Came with a suction line and a pressure hose with a brass nozzle. Haven't used it since I got the well put in.

Hey pf,

It was well used when I bought it for $500 but it's still pumping well whenever I need it. It only gets used about 20 or 30 hours per year. It's a Berkeley T1-B3ZRM pump. I'm sure it's 20 or 30 years old. I bought it from a vegetable farmer that I met at an auction.

I spent nearly as much on the foot valve/screen and the intake pipe reducer, and lots of trial and error to get it working properly.

I bought another pto pump at another auction that's newer and bigger but I haven't used it. It's a Capriati. It was about $1000.
