I can't answer exactly, but there should be a mark or symbol on the tachometer that indicates the required engine RPM to achieve 540 PTO RPM. My "guess" would be around 2500 or so.

I know while shredding last night I hit about 2800rpm a few times and I'm still here. I thought it may open up a space/time wormhole; but it worked fine. I would not run it faster than 540 for long; but I'm guessing its not going to hurt if you hit faster every now and then.

Running it real fast may hold it to the ground on hills better:laughing:

There is a poster on here who runs his at 600 with no problems.

2800 engine is about 613 pto rpm.

I normally don't mind running things like mowers up to 600 rpm etc.. ( about 2737 on yer tach.. )

On my TC-40, the tach has two gradient marks for 640 PTO. One at 2400 rpm for a geared transmission and the other at 2500 rpm for the HST transmission. Not saying that these rpms will match your TC-25D but aren't there similar markings on your tach?

There are no marks on this TC25D tachometer or the cover. I looked there first.

Thanks for the tips to run the SQ 480 gear box at around 2500 on the engine tach.

You should have an operator's manual for this tractor...I suggest you read it. As Kenny wrote, there should be a mark at PTO speed. It may not be obvious, just an extended RPM speed mark, for example.
If all else fails, call your local CNH dealer.
