PTO RPM questions

First of all, with the PTO engaged and I increase the engine RPM's will the PTO RPM's also increase? IF not, how is the PTO RPMs governed to 540 RPM?
Next, my CX3520SE has a 540E and a 540 mark on the tachometer. It is my understanding that at the 540E mark it will run the PTO at 540 RPMs at a lower engine RPM. At the 540 mark the engine will run at full rated RPM speed for 540 PTO. How is the gearing ratio changed between these two PTO RPM options? With PTO engaged at 540E and I increase the engine RPMs to the 540 tachometer mark will the PTO gearing change to maintain 540 RPMs on the PTO?

There is a direction connection between the engine and the PTO with a gear reduction with a fixed ratio in between, so yes, as you increase the engine RPM, the PTO RPM will also increase.

To switch between 540 and 540E, you would have a PTO lever that would allow you to select which speed. Think of it as a 2 speed gearbox just for the PTO.

I don't think the US models came with 540E but they do share the dashboards though, that's why you have the 2 marks there.

Running with the 540E gear engaged, at engine rated speed (2500RPM), will cause the PTO to spin at around 750 RPM. Technically overspeeding for 540RPM rated implements.

This is for the US market. Doesn't have 540E.

Here’s a Kioti picture, yours will be similar but different. Typically optimum Pto rpm for most implements is 540. The dash will display engine rpm with a red mark for 540 Pto speed. Once the Pto is engaged rev the engine until the tach needle is close to or at the Pto mark. Obviously the engine is revving higher then the Pto speed…

Similar to mine but I also have a mark for 540E. Not sure what that engine rpm is off hand, but I think it's around 1800. But apparently the US versions don't have 540E capability.

On my dk45, when i set engine rpm to the red mark, the rpm gauge on my new woodmaxx chipper says 540 rpm…….

So thats a good thing

540. My 3054xs has the standard 540 rpm pto and a 1000 rpm capability. I determined the engine rpm is 1400/1500 to accomplish the 540 in this configuration

Not hard to figure out. The smaller gear has 13 teeth and the big one 58, so that's a 4.461:1 ratio.

What RPM does the tachometer mark when you put it in the 540 mark? Doing the math, should be around 2400 RPM.

My fault, I was wondering how accurate the mark on the tach is. I did not know the gear ratio.
Now I gotta wonder, how accurate is the tachometer

What kind of attachment are you running?

I’d say the mark on your tach is plenty accurate. Fine-tune as needed.

I will go by the tach (2400 rpm), I was only joking about responding to the over-analyzing post . I know how these things can be over-analyzed. Just go with it!
I have a brush hog and inverted snowblower that I run off of the pto. From what I have found 540E would not be appropriate for these anyway.
