Hay Mark next time you talk to Rick tell him I've got a pretty big mouth as well. Proven here over time no doubt. Also tell him I'm in the market for a couple of new tiltmeters./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Rick,
Will you be at the Empire Farm Days show in NY?

Hi Von,
I can not be at the Farm Show. I really wish I could. This
last show cost a small fortune, and I am really behind in my
work here because I was gone for 5 days. I have a list of
shows each year, but can not go to many. Usually try to
stay close to home at local shows. Louisville was a large
o.e.m. / dealer show so decided to go a little further this
time. As far as the new model, I should be able to get the
prizm to show bubble color at a greater range of view, but I
do not believe it will be color visible at all possible angles.
Right now it is designed to show color if hung from canopy.
Also, the bubble now changes size when temperature goes
high, so I am working on a pressure compensation system for
the tube. I have three molds already for parts that make up
this new model. I said I was going to quit making new models
for awhile. NOT!!!!! Maybe later. Rick

Hi Gordon,
Be glad to have you test a new model also. Let me get it
a little closer to a finished product. Mark seemed to be the
most versatile one on the board, and I'm not sure if he
offered, or I asked him to test models. Seems like Mark uses
his tractor to do everything but make breakfast, so he was
a good choice. Also, Jack tests some for me. Both very
knowledgeable, professional people. As stated, I would love
to have you test one also. The new model will not be for
everyone. It will fill a void in my product line when a magnet
mount is desirable for temporary mounting. To many things
can go wrong when a magnet is used for long term mount.
I still recommend NO MAGNETS. Say someone uses magnet,
and the meter gets bumped. Many people would not go to
the trouble to level it again until later. Then it is not reading
correctly when needed. Or another person gets on tractor
and does not know meter has been bumped. Lawyers would
have a hey day with that one. I have a highway dept. that
uses thin adhesive strip on flat part of mounting bracket feet,
and then uses a thin flat bar magnet and another adhesive
strip on bottom of magnet.Kind of a sandwich affair. It
seems to work well. However, the magnets are very strong,
and the adhesive very aggresive. They are leased tractors,
and mounting holes are a no-no. If you need a new meter,
let me know. How about I offer a discount for repeat
customers besides the tbn discount????? No problem doing
it. Thanks Mark, Jack, Gordon, and all the rest of my friends, and customers here. Rick

Rick - Thanks! If "it takes one to know one", then I regard your compliments of "knowledgeable" and "professional" very highly. As I said, thanks!

I don't mind Gordon getting a test unit at all, as long as it's not mine!!! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

As for the discounts, I'm all for 'em, as long as you're still in business tomorrow. While I probably shop around for price more than most folks do, I believe it's even more important for the folks I do business with, especially specialty outfits like yours, to make a fair profit. For example, you may remember when I had problems with the first beeper-model TiltMeter you sent me. (I wasn't surprised - you told me it was a brand new design.) Anyway, when I described the problems, you fixed them in a new design, sent me a new one free, and refunded my money for the original one. So, your intention was that I end up with two TiltMeters for nothing. When I asked you about it, you said it was only fair because I had basically been a guinea pig on the design. Well, you probably also remember that I refused to cash that refund check you sent me. Don't get me wrong - I'm all for being treated fairly - but I don't want you treating yourself unfairly, either. This isn't entirely altruism, either. Like I said, I want you to be there next year when I need you.

All of which is to say: (In my opinion) offer all the deals you want, but make a fair profit. Otherwise, you can't continue to provide the excellent customer service and product development you do. Most of us will forget whether we paid $40 or $50 for something, but we'll remember how well it works, what a great guy you are to deal with, etc. for a very long time. Just don't make us remember all that in the past tense.

Ouch! (I sprained my ankle stepping off that high soap box... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif)

Rick, thank goodness Mark is not the kind of guy who would think of using magnets for anything!

Glenn - If you look carefully at the picture of the front-to-rear slope indicator in the picture of the console in the "L4310 enhancements" thread, you'll see that it's tilited forward about 5 degrees. That's because it's the steel-ball version, and it needs that slant to read zero with my magnetic cup mounted on the fender. It's a little off when I take the cup off the fender, but I don't go up and down steep hills when I'm drinking, anyway.

Dang Rick! You're ruining our image of Mark! At least, I thought he fixed breakfast with his tractor! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Mark, are you sure you don't have a fold out kitchen on that rig? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Mark you drove a sixteen penny nail home in one shot with that post. Couldn't have put it better myself and thats a fact.

All execpt me not getting your test model that is./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Anyone who has posted here for a length of time or has dealt with Rick at R & B knows not only he is a more than fair person to deal with but also a true class act.

First let me say thanks for the offer on both the discount and also the offer on a test unit. I've got a new tractor and still getting used to it. I really should already have one mounted.

As of yet I don't have a canopy so I'm undecided as to what model tiltmeter to buy, but I will be getting one in the near future. Guess that goes without saying after my last post. If all goes well I've have my canopy built by the end of summer, hopefully sooner.

Thanks again
Gordon
