I am waiting on a 28x36 metal garage fully enclosed with 2 10x9 doors. for rightat 11000, You could build a 16x24 temporary shed for a couple grand. The steel container might be the way to go though because you can always sell it later after your garage build.

Yep, I went to Lowe’s yesterday and saw that 2x12x12 that went up $14 over nite to $31 is now $32.75. I wonder where it’s going to end. Our new house was framed in July of 2019. My builder told me last month, he has had to adjust contracts up by $15K, because of the FAST rise in lumber prices.

OP, when you say protection from high heat are you referring to temperature or UV (ultra violet) rays. It's the UV rays that really cause colour fading and tyre damage.

If so, I recommend orientating your future open shed facing North.

Tasmania has brutal UV exposure (right now, our Summer, we're getting Level 10 to 11 even with cloud cover). My 5-bay all metal shed, with concrete slab, faces directly South.

It's going to end when people can't afford the prices, or find another building material.

Yup......the lumber prices will crash, we just don't know quite when yet.

It’s not showing any signs of stopping yet. Honestly I wouldn’t make any bets on it slowing anytime soon. My state is seeing record building mostly to out of starters fleeing the more liberal states. Our market was already a lot cheaper than theirs and an additional 20k for lumber isn’t concerning for them.

When the stock market takes a flop, the lumber prices will also take a flop!
NOTHING goes up, and stays up....forever!

It’ll probably never reach the price it was early last year though. Gas used to be 20 cents a gallon. That doesn’t mean it ever will be again.

I hope that you're right. A happy medium would be nice... prices high enough to keep jobs on this side of the border yet low enough so that people can afford to build.
